Job description

An emerging robotics organization is hiring a Sr Electro-Mechanical Technician to play a key role in the build quality, reliability, and technical execution of its onsite operations in San Francisco. This position is ideal for someone who wants meaningful ownership in a scaling environment, enjoys solving tough electromechanical problems, and can help raise the bar for technician workflows as robotic systems move from development into broader deployment. You will work closely with engineering and have direct influence on system readiness, service quality, and technical best practices.

What You Will Do
  • Lead advanced build, test, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities across complex robotic systems.
  • Lead complex troubleshooting across electromechanical, sensor, and controls subsystems while mentoring junior technicians.
  • Set the standard for maintenance quality, root cause analysis, and readiness across a growing robotics operation.
  • Coordinate advanced builds, validation work, and high priority service events with cross functional engineering teams.
  • Translate field and test observations into process improvements that raise reliability and reduce repeat failures.
  • Oversee calibration, inspection, service documentation, and technical procedure refinement.
  • Support issue escalation when systems require deeper diagnostics across hardware, controls, and software adjacent components.
  • Contribute to deployment preparation and help ensure systems are ready for sustained operation in live environments.
What the Team Is Looking For
  • Several years of hands-on experience in robotics, automation, industrial equipment, automotive, or another demanding electromechanical service environment.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, including confidence with schematics, test tools, and structured root cause analysis.
  • Experience with motors, sensors, wiring, controls, and integrated subsystems.
  • Working knowledge of Linux based diagnostics or command line environments.
  • Ability to operate with urgency, independence, and strong ownership in an onsite startup setting.
  • Prior experience guiding less experienced technicians, improving procedures, or informally leading technical work is highly valued.
Helpful Background
  • Exposure to ROS, CAN bus, industrial protocols, or production support environments.
  • Familiarity with CAD, prototyping, or hardware iteration workflows.
  • Experience in high availability systems where uptime and fast recovery are critical.
What Will Help You Succeed
  • You combine strong hands-on skill with clear judgment and disciplined troubleshooting.
  • You can balance immediate fixes with longer-term reliability improvements.
  • You communicate well across technician and engineering groups.
  • You are motivated by impact, accountability, and the pace of a growing robotics team.
