Job Overview

Position: Systems Technician II. Location: Anchorage, AK 99503. Type: Full Time. Shift: Day. Travel: None.

Provides advanced user and systems support for IT services in a dynamic healthcare environment. Responsibilities include secondary help desk support, desktop OS standardization, automated software distribution, server and major application troubleshooting, vendor coordination, server administration, disaster recovery and system security.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Act as secondary application support for users across company‑wide applications (Windows, Office, email, network scanning, printing, faxing, etc.).
  • Accept and document technology support incidents using tracking software.
  • Diagnose and resolve end‑user incidents; escalation as needed.
  • Act as primary phone system administrator and troubleshoot mixed phone/server/network issues.
  • Design and develop standard desktop/laptop builds and image deployment methods.
  • Manage scripted software deployment and patch management systems for PC maintenance.
  • Optionally design and maintain Remote Desktop Services (RDS) platforms for thin clients and/or remote access.
  • Participate in data backup operations and disaster recovery plans.
  • Advocate for vendor compliance with service level agreements.
  • Manage server OS and major applications for optimal performance; assist in capacity planning.
  • Optionally provide design and management for core server virtualization and centralized storage technologies.
  • Set standards and document procedures for software patching, anti‑virus, user and group account management.
  • Participate in on‑call rotation for emergency and priority support after normal business hours.
  • Monitor and maintain service level targets in collaboration with the CIO.
  • Maintain high levels of customer service and provide proactive user updates.
Supporting Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist with corporate compliance efforts, including HIPAA/HITECH regulations.
  • Provide input on project and strategy development and prioritization.
  • Assist with IP network and information security management.
  • Provide input on department project prioritization and budgets.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to train users and write basic documentation.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and problem‑solving, especially with limited information.
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple support tasks and technology projects.
  • Proven ability to analyze business and technical problems and develop creative solutions.
  • Desire to continually learn new technologies through training and experimentation.
  • Awareness of evolving healthcare technology requirements and trends.
  • Interpreting technical materials; attention to detail.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of IT security principles and regulatory requirements such as HIPAA and PCI.
  • Availability for on‑call rotation and willingness to work unusual schedules for maintenance.

  • Phone system (PBX) administration, especially SIP‑based VoIP.
  • Cloud‑hosted applications support (e.g., Google Apps).
  • Remote access platforms, VPN and SSL VPN support.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills; Visio documentation.
  • Videoconferencing services support (Skype, LifeTime, Polycom).
Physical, Sensory, Environmental Qualifications
  • Regularly required to lift up to 50 lb.
  • Must perform fine finger movements for small objects.
  • Requires hearing, vision, touch, speech and deductive reasoning.
  • Work performed in a healthcare clinic and office setting; tobacco‑free campus.

Qualifications

  • Experience with virtualization platforms (VMware or Microsoft); classroom‑style end‑user training.
