Position Summary

Pearson Virtual Schools (PVS) is hiring a Systems Administrator, local to Baltimore Maryland, who will join the team managing our School IT Services for customers nationwide. Candidates should have practical experience in supporting and administering various IT services. We seek someone with hands-on experience and the ability to manage and execute tasks effectively in a highly technical environment. Professional customer service skills and independent troubleshooting capabilities are essential.

This position is 95% remote work, with 5% in-person attendance for events, school visits, or office work as needed. Employees must have appropriate remote work setups, adhering to company policies regarding privacy, technology, and equipment standards.

The company will provide the following equipment:

  • 2 Primary Laptops and up to 10 test devices/peripherals
  • 4 External Monitors
  • Additional hardware for supporting multiple primary computers and test devices

Employees need to provide:

  • Headset (required)
  • Keyboard (required)
  • Mouse (required)
Overall Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support and solutions, including planning, configuration, deployment, and maintenance of school staff and student technology and applications.
  • Assist with escalated support issues, resolving customer problems through troubleshooting.
  • Manage and troubleshoot Windows, ChromeOS, ChromeOS Flex, Apple iPads, printers, and applications on Google Workspace and Microsoft 365/Azure.
  • Configure devices and ensure access to necessary tools and resources.
  • Build and maintain servers running various services like domain controllers, web, Linux, SharePoint, DNS/DHCP.
  • Evaluate application functions related to customer needs.
  • Mentor Service Desk teams, manage support requests, and track tickets.
  • Participate in projects, gather requirements, and document processes.
  • Maintain a knowledge base and perform other duties as assigned.
Technical Capabilities & Proficiencies
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, Endpoint Manager, On-Prem Active Directory, Windows Server, SQL, Google Cloud Directory Sync, Google Workspace, and related services.
  • Hardware/software troubleshooting, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, SFTP, IIS, printing devices, and PowerShell scripting.
Experience And Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years in systems administration or similar in a large enterprise environment.
  • Availability for on-call, evenings, weekends, and critical outages.
  • Strong communication, organization, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work remotely with a secure environment and reliable broadband.
