Referment is working with an investment and technology organisation seeking a Network Reliability Engineer for a hands‑on infrastructure engineering role.
You will join a cross‑platform systems team responsible for the reliability and continuing improvement of a complex production environment spanning Linux and Windows systems, business applications, high‑performance networks and storage infrastructure. The remit combines operational ownership with engineering projects: resolving difficult incidents, improving observability, automating repetitive work and making changes safely.
The Role
- Operate and engineer production network infrastructure with a focus on stability, reliability and safe change.
- Diagnose unfamiliar, high-impact technical problems under pressure with high attention to detail.
- Administer network, monitoring and security platforms across a cross-platform environment, with a focus on Palo Alto, Fortinet and Cisco ASA.
- Develop automation using industry-standard frameworks to remove manual work, improve efficiency and manage configuration as code.
- Implement and maintain Zero Trust architecture and secure access solutions such as Zscaler (ZIA/ZPA), Cisco ISE or FortiNAC.
- Make network health measurable through effective metrics, monitoring and diagnostic tooling including Splunk, SolarWinds and Zabbix.
- Contribute to broader infrastructure engineering projects, including cloud-native networking and hybrid connectivity.
What We’re Looking For
- At least five years of hands‑on experience operating and engineering production networks at scale, including on‑call responsibility.
- Strong fundamentals across UDP, TCP/IP, BGP and OSPF, with working knowledge of PIM and IGMP multicast technologies.
- Extensive hands‑on experience with modern enterprise firewall and security platforms, specifically Palo Alto, Fortinet and Cisco ASA.
- Proficiency in industry-standard network automation and declarative configuration management tools, specifically Ansible.
- Experience writing and maintaining automation, ideally using Python.
- Hands‑on experience with Zero Trust architecture and secure access solutions (e.g. Zscaler ZIA/ZPA, Cisco ISE, FortiNAC).
- Experience with standard network observability and monitoring suites such as Splunk, SolarWinds or Zabbix.
- A technical degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Relevant industry certifications such as CCNP or PCNSE are highly desirable.
- Experience with cloud-native networking and hybrid connectivity, such as AWS VPC, Direct Connect or Azure Networking, is a plus.
This could suit a senior network engineer, network automation engineer, network-focused site reliability engineer, or infrastructure engineer who has owned large production networks.
