Job summary

Visionist, Inc. is seeking a Systems/Network Administrator at Fort Meade with Top Secret/SI clearance. The role involves installing and maintaining servers and networking gear, administering Linux systems, and supporting virtualization platforms (VMware, Xen, Nutanix).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, with 4 years of experience substituting for the degree.
  • 5+ years of systems/network administration experience.
  • Hands-on IT infrastructure experience including server install, rack/stack, cabling, hardware troubleshooting and system bring-up.
  • Configure and troubleshoot servers for proper network connectivity.
  • Knowledge of Linux administration and common troubleshooting techniques.
  • Familiarity with IP addressing, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching.
  • Experience with virtualization (VMware, Xen, Nutanix) is a plus.
  • Automation with Ansible or similar configuration tools is a plus.
  • Ability to document procedures and configurations.
  • Understanding patching, vulnerability remediation, and security compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Install, rack, cable, configure, and maintain physical servers and networking gear in development/test environments.
  • Configure server connectivity and ensure systems are reachable in the network.
  • Administer and troubleshoot Linux-based systems, including services, logs, and performance checks.
  • Diagnose hardware, OS, and network issues to maintain availability.
  • Assist with virtualization deployments (VMware, Xen, Nutanix).
  • Develop and maintain Ansible automation scripts to improve efficiency.
  • Apply system patches and configuration updates for compliance.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and SOPs.
  • Support ISSO/ISSE teams with hardening and vulnerability remediation.
  • Assist with Windows patching and basic administration when required.

Your contributions are...
  • Install, rack, cable, configure, and maintain physical servers, networking equipment, and supporting infrastructure within development and test environments
  • Configure and verify server connectivity to ensure systems are reachable and properly integrated into the network environment
  • Administer and troubleshoot Linux-based systems, including system configuration, user management, services, logs, and basic performance monitoring
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, operating system, and network issues to maintain system availability and reliability
  • Assist with the deployment and maintenance of virtualized environments using platforms such as VMware, Xen, or Nutanix
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts using Ansible to simplify recurring administrative tasks and improve operational efficiency
  • Perform system patching and configuration updates to maintain STE/STN compliance requirements
  • Assist ISSO/ISSE teams with system hardening, security configuration, vulnerability remediation, and compliance activities
  • Support Windows patching and basic administration tasks when required
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including system build procedures, troubleshooting guides, configuration records, and operational processes
  • Follow established procedures while identifying opportunities to improve system reliability, repeatability, and supportability
Requirements for your new career...
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline. (Additional 4 years of experience may substitute degree)
  • 5 years of experience in systems/network administration
  • Hands-on experience supporting IT infrastructure, including server installation, rack/stack activities, cabling, hardware troubleshooting, and system bring-up
  • Ability to configure and troubleshoot servers to ensure proper network connectivity and accessibility
  • Working knowledge of Linux system administration and common troubleshooting techniques
  • Familiarity with networking concepts including IP addressing, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching, and connectivity troubleshooting
  • Experience supporting virtualization technologies such as VMware, Xen, or Nutanix is a plus
  • Experience with automation tools such as Ansible or similar configuration management technologies is a plus
  • Ability to follow, create, and maintain technical documentation and standard operating procedures
  • Understanding of system patching, vulnerability remediation, and security compliance requirements is preferred
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn new technologies in a hands-on infrastructure environment
Physical Requirements:
  • This position requires the ability to lift, move, and transport equipment weighing up to 50 pounds as part of routine system maintenance, server installations, and hardware troubleshooting activities
  • Candidates should be comfortable performing physical infrastructure tasks, including rack installation, cable management, equipment replacement, and hands-on system support

Salary range: $110,000 - $170,000
