Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Serve as functional system administrator for library systems including the LSP, user authentication, and e-resource access; lead design, testing, deployment, and evaluation of Ex Libris portfolio.
• Research and implement new library technologies; develop and maintain library website content and systems documentation.
• Provide technical support and training to library staff; improve user experience and access to electronic resources; harvest metadata from CORE Scholar and ArchivesSpace.
• Coordinate with OhioLINK and other statewide library technology initiatives and ensure accessibility compliance.
• Stay current with library technology trends and serve on departmental and university committees.

Job description

The Systems Librarian is responsible for the management, configuration, and maintenance of the library services platform (LSP) and other library technologies. This role ensures the efficient operation of library systems used by students in their education and research pursuits and supports the library's mission of providing access to exceptional resources and services, including identifying business problems and opportunities and assessing feasibility related to Wright State's library technology needs.

The Systems Librarian oversees the implementation, maintenance, support, and enhancement of various library technologies, systems and integrations, gathering and understanding the business needs of stakeholders and supporting the design, planning, implementation, and measurement of technology projects, often involving multi-functional groups.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, information systems, library science or a related field with 5 years of experience in a library setting, OR a master's degree in the same fields with 2 years of experience in a library setting.
• At least 2 years' experience with ILS systems such as Alma/Primo VE or other library management systems, and knowledge of and experience with HTML and CSS.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of information technology principles, processes, systems, and standards, including usability, accessibility, and emerging web technologies.
• Experience participating in systems projects or implementing new technologies.
• Ability to adapt to and manage shifting priorities, demands, and timelines.
• Extensive experience with databases and related data storage systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, exceptional attention to detail, and strong planning and organization skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Library Science or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited institution.
• Experience working in an academic setting.
• Experience with access and authentication processes using SAML and EZproxy.
• Knowledge of basic programming concepts and languages such as Python, R, JavaScript, SQL, JSON, XSL, and XML.

Essential Functions

• 40% Business Analysis and User Acceptance: Works with university stakeholders to understand business processes and use cases; serves as functional system administrator for library systems including the LSP, user authentication, and e-resource access; leads design, testing, deployment, and evaluation of the library's Ex Libris application portfolio; researches and implements new technologies; and develops and maintains library website content and systems documentation.
• 35% Functional Expert for University Libraries Systems: Provides technical support and training to library staff; collaborates on improving user experience and access to electronic resources; harvests metadata from CORE Scholar and ArchivesSpace with Special Collections & Archives; serves on the library's Web Advisory Team ensuring accessibility compliance; and troubleshoots technical and functional problems.
• 10% Support and Troubleshooting: Liaises with vendors for system support, upgrades, and troubleshooting; ensures data integrity across student success data with the institution's Data Governance Committee; and maintains permissions and access across the library's application portfolio.
• 10% Technology Compliance: Serves as Wright State's Lead Implementer for OhioLINK, coordinating statewide library technology initiatives and information sharing with other OhioLINK libraries.
• 5% Other related duties including staying current with library technology trends and serving on departmental, university, and professional committees.

Working Conditions

Regular office environment, normal work schedule is 8am-4:30pm Monday through Friday.
