Element Energy, Inc. is seeking a Systems Engineer with a hardware background to drive the development and validation of its Advanced Battery Management products for grid storage applications.

The role requires deep experience in BMS design, power conversion, and safety-critical testing. You will define specifications, validate architectures, and contribute to hardware development while ensuring reliability and compliance with safety standards.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or closely related field with 7+ years of related experience.
  • PhD in Electrical Engineering or closely related field with 5+ years of related experience.
  • Solid understanding of Electrical Engineering fundamentals.

Responsibilities

  • Define, validate, and enhance Battery Management System (BMS) for grid storage applications.
  • Design of highly efficient power conversion solutions (DC-DC converter); explore new architectures and topologies.
  • Create and execute test plans to validate designs for functional and performance goals; conduct product-level testing focusing on safety, reliability, risk mitigation and FMEA.
  • Write requirement documents, application notes, user guides, and datasheets.

Description

Systems Engineer with a hardware background. Responsible for Systems/HW development and the validation of Element Energy's Advanced Battery Management products.

Location / Travel
  • Element's Menlo Park Office. Travel to production and/or customer sites as necessary.
Salary / Equity
  • Staff to Senior Staff range dependent on skills and experience.
  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, or closely related field, and 7+ years of closely related experience. Regardless of degree discipline, a solid understanding of Electrical Engineering fundamentals is essential.
  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, or closely related field and 5+ years of closely related experience.
Responsibilities
  • Define, validate, and enhance Battery Management System (BMS) for grid storage applications
  • Design of Highly Efficient Power Conversion Solutions (DC-DC converter). Explore new architectures, model new power converter topologies and related control techniques to achieve improved performance.
  • Create and execute test plans to validate designs for functional and performance goals; design and execution of product level testing with a focus on safety, reliability, risk mitigation and FMEA.
  • Write requirement documents, application notes, user guides, and datasheets.
Preferred Skills:
  • BMS design and characterization techniques.
  • Deep experience in DC-DC converters and control loop design.
  • Functional safety development processes and lifecycles.
  • Solid background in analog/digital circuit design, micro-processors, and serial communication interfaces.
  • Knowledge of battery chemistry, characteristics, and performance.
  • Knowledge of grid-tied storage systems and how they function/interact with the grid.
  • Experience working with high power and/or high voltage products
  • Knowledge of UL and other certification requirements for functionality and functional safety.
