Job summary

Joby Aviation is seeking a Systems Engineering Lead to provide technical guidance across engineering groups and govern the development of safety-critical aircraft systems. The role partners with FAA authorities, DERs, and certification teams to ensure compliance and successful design validation throughout the product development process.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related technical discipline required.
• Expert-level understanding of development and certification of complex, safety-critical aircraft systems.
• Experience leading technical professionals, mentorship, and performance development.

Responsibilities

• Lead system development activities defined by the Joby Product Development Process.
• Plan, engineer, and implement system development infrastructure.
• Recruit and manage a systems engineering team to meet objectives with technical direction.
• Coordinate between system engineering, system safety, and design teams.
• Ensure systems meet FAA certification requirements and are well documented.
• Develop and implement engineering standards, processes, and procedures.
• Perform architecture trade studies and design reviews.
• Produce system schematics, interface control documents, and design descriptions.
• Conduct system performance analyses and integration/testing activities.
• Review and approve system requirements, validation plans, and safety analyses.
• Prepare engineering specifications and installation/calibration procedures.
• Provide cross-team guidance and liaise with certification authorities.
