Job summary

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Systems Engineering Department Manager M3 to lead multiple sections of the SCS Systems Engineering organization in Melbourne, FL. This on-site leadership role reports to the EI&E leader within the MDC2/SCS Business Unit and focuses on aligning capabilities with program needs across cost, schedule, and technical performance.

The position requires a STEM degree with 7–9+ years of related engineering experience, plus 5+ years of leadership.

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Systems Engineering Department Manager M3 to lead a number of sections of the Strategic Communications Systems (SCS) Systems Engineering organization. This role reports to the Engineering Integration & Execution (EI&E) leader for Systems Engineering and Product Support on the MDC2/SCS Business Unit. This leadership role is located on-site in Melbourne, FL.

The Systems Engineering Department Manager is accountable for the performance, development, and engagement of a large engineering organization consisting of section managers and individual contributors. The role balances people leadership, technical oversight, and operational execution in a complex, program-driven environment.

This leader plays a critical role in aligning functional capabilities with program needs, enabling successful execution across cost, schedule, quality, and technical performance.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 9 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 7 years of related engineering experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience, including first-level or higher people management leadership.
  • Experience in leading, mentoring, and developing multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver complex technical solutions, within cost and schedule constraints, across the various phases of the engineering lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated capability in workforce and resource planning, including allocating resources across programs, managing workloads and priorities, forecasting staffing needs, and executing end-to-end hiring decisions.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and written/oral communication skills, enabling effective engagement with cross-functional stakeholders and customers.
  • Experience in adopting and tailoring corporate/sector/industry System Engineering standards, tools, and processes for use on programs.
  • Experience managing a systems engineering organization executing MBSE analyses in accordance with SysML standards and best practices.
  • Must possess an active DoD Top Secret clearance that is in scope
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Systems Engineering
  • Prior people leadership experience of large teams (50+).
  • Demonstrated experience applying performance management process and HR policies, including goal setting, performance feedback, development planning, and addressing performance concerns in accordance with company policy.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management Techniques (EVMS) / Control Account Management (CAM), Integrated Master Schedules (IMS), Basis of Estimates (BOEs) and cost-schedule-risk trade off management.
  • Experience with the System Engineering Technical Review process (SRR, PDR, CDR and TRR).
  • Experience identifying, developing, and managing performance metrics to support program and technical execution monitoring and control.
  • Proven expertise in technical planning, risk &opportunity management, and driving project performance across cost, schedule, and technical quality.
  • Experience with Agile development techniques and tools such as Atlassian tool suite.
  • Proficient in Cameo software
  • Experience with nuclear survivability analyzes such as Ionizing Radiation, Air Blast, High-Altitude Electromagnetic Pulse.

Primary Level Salary Range: $166,700.00 - $250,100.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
