Description

At Northrop Grumman, our employees have incredible opportunities to work on revolutionary systems that impact people's lives around the world today, and for generations to come. Our pioneering and inventive spirit has enabled us to be at the forefront of many technological advancements in our nation's history - from the first flight across the Atlantic Ocean, to stealth bombers, to landing on the moon. We look for people who have bold new ideas, courage and a pioneering spirit to join forces to invent the future, and have fun along the way. Our culture thrives on intellectual curiosity, cognitive diversity and bringing your whole self to work — and we have an insatiable drive to do what others think is impossible. Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an Engineer Systems to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Systems Engineering organization. This role is located in Melbourne, FL.

In this role, the successful candidate will participate in the definition, design, integration, and verification of complex systems-of-systems architecture by leveraging Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience. The successful candidate will apply MBSE principles and tools to create and manage rigorous, reusable system models that drive requirements traceability, architecture development, and impact analysis across the product lifecycle. This role partners closely with cross-functional teams—including hardware, software, firmware, test, and program management—to ensure that system designs meet performance, cost, schedule, and risk objectives. The individual will support the application of commercial technologies to operational military use cases, including advanced communications, machine learning, and future wireless technologies in support of advanced battle management capabilities. The qualified candidate must thrive in a fast-paced, team environment, be comfortable multi-tasking and reprioritizing daily, contribute to whitepapers and proposals, develop PowerPoint presentation content, and self-learn with minimal direction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and maintain MBSE process standards and best practices, and champion MBSE adoption across engineering teams.
  • Develop and refine system architectures and models using SysML or equivalent tools to capture system behavior, interfaces, and performance.
  • Perform trade studies, architecture assessments, and model-based simulations to support design decisions.
  • Manage requirements by capturing, decomposing, allocating, and tracing them throughout the model lifecycle, ensuring traceability to verification and validation.
  • Generate design specifications and coordinate integration activities to ensure consistency and manage changes.
  • Derive test cases and procedures from model requirements and support verification and validation through model-based analysis.
  • Maintain model repositories, apply version control, and manage configuration of model artifacts.
  • Facilitate design reviews, produce clear documentation and presentations, and communicate complex system concepts to stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities for automation, implement tooling enhancements, and evaluate emerging MBSE technologies for adoption.

We offer flexible work arrangements, 9/80 work schedule with every other Friday off, phenomenal learning opportunities, exposure to a wide variety of projects and customers, and a very friendly team environment. We are looking for self-motivated, proactive, and goal-oriented people to help us grow our services and become even better at what we do.

  • Must have an active US Government Secret clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Top Secret clearance and Special Access Program (SAP) within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.
  • Must have the ability to work independently and identify solutions to complex problems.
