Job summary

Penn State University’s Applied Research Laboratory is seeking a Systems Engineer to plan and execute land-based and in-water verification activities across a program’s life cycle. You will coordinate with program managers, subsystem leads, sponsors, and DoD test entities, traveling to on-site environments as needed.

The role requires strong V&V skills, instrumentation experience, and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams through Test Readiness Reviews and field events, with a path toward

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science is required.
• Strong understanding of systems engineering and V&V principles.
• Hands-on experience with instrumentation and data collection.

Responsibilities

• Plan, design, and execute system-level land-based and in-water T&E across development, integration, and verification.
• Develop test plans, procedures, and traceability matrices.
• Conduct functional, performance, environmental, and integration testing.
• Analyze test data, support root-cause investigations, and provide recommendations.
• Prepare technical reports and briefings; lead test readiness reviews.
• Coordinate test logistics, including hardware/software readiness and data collection.
• Lead on-site Test Director duties for field events and manage small multidisciplinary teams.
• Manage test-related risks and develop contingency procedures.
