Systems Engineer, Support
Location: New York City, NY (Onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday)
Position Overview
We are seeking a Systems Engineer, Support to ensure reliable, secure, and user-focused operation of our IT systems. This role combines systems engineering with hands-on end-user support across Linux, macOS, and Windows environments. The Systems Engineer, Support will troubleshoot incidents, perform maintenance and hardening tasks, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve system reliability and security while delivering excellent customer service to internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide Level 2/3 support for end users and infrastructure across Linux, macOS, and Windows platforms, diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, network, and configuration issues.
- Perform systems engineering tasks including server and workstation provisioning, configuration management, patching, and automation to maintain consistent, scalable environments.
- Implement and maintain system security controls: hardening, access management, vulnerability remediation, and monitoring to meet organizational security standards.
- Respond to incidents and service requests in a timely manner, documenting troubleshooting steps, root cause analysis, and resolutions in the ticketing system.
- Collaborate with IT teams to design and deploy system improvements, upgrades, backups, and disaster recovery processes.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and knowledge base articles to support repeatable operations and end-user self-help.
- Train and assist end users on common tools, secure practices, and platform features to reduce recurring issues and improve productivity.
- Participate in on-call rotations, change management, and regular review of system health, performance metrics, and capacity planning.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience, or relevant technical certifications (e.g., RHCE, CompTIA Linux+, Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate).
- 3+ years of hands-on experience providing support and systems engineering in enterprise environments supporting Linux, macOS, and Windows.
- Strong troubleshooting skills in end-user support and infrastructure, including experience with common desktop applications, AD/Azure AD, file services, networking fundamentals, and remote support tools.
- Practical experience with system security best practices: patch management, user account lifecycle, least privilege, endpoint protection, and vulnerability scanning.
- Familiarity with configuration management and automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, SCCM, Jamf) and scripting (Bash, PowerShell, Python) to streamline operations.
- Experience with monitoring, logging, and incident response processes and tools (e.g., Nagios, Prometheus, Splunk, ELK).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, customer-focused mindset, and ability to work collaboratively across teams and to mentor junior technicians.
