Job summary

AutoZone is seeking a Systems Engineer to join our Memphis team. You will design, build, and maintain scalable systems supporting supply chain and retail operations, with a focus on reliability, performance, and security.

You will work across the full SDLC, collaborate with cross-functional teams, develop APIs and microservices, and implement CI/CD pipelines in Kubernetes environments. A strong background in Java/Spring and cloud tools is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 3+ years of proven experience in Java and Spring framework including Spring Boot.
  • 1+ year of hands-on experience with OpenTelemetry and Dynatrace.
  • 1+ year of experience with JMS Pub/Sub messaging middleware.
  • Experience with Agile project methodologies.
  • Design, develop, support, and maintain integration solutions for high-volume applications.
  • Strong knowledge of Microservices and SOA architecture.
  • Experience with Kubernetes for CI/CD and GCP cloud.
  • Strong SQL query experience.
  • Experience with API documentation (Swagger/OpenAPI).
  • Experience with API gateways like Apigee.
  • Knowledge of Unix scripting (Shell/Python).
  • Experience with caching and asynchronous processing for API performance.
  • Experience with caching (Akamai CDN).

Responsibilities

  • Participate in all phases of the systems development life cycle including design, development, testing, deployment, and support.
  • Ensure applications run efficiently, optimally, and reliably in cloud-based environments.
  • Design, develop, and maintain integration solutions for high-volume data exchange.
  • Collaborate with development teams to identify inefficiencies and limitations.
  • Support projects evolving system functionality to meet business needs.
  • Develop APIs, microservices, and middleware solutions.
  • Create monitoring dashboards, metrics, and alerts with Dynatrace/OpenTelemetry.
  • Perform on-call support and issue resolution.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines leveraging Kubernetes.
  • Optimize application and API performance with caching and async processing.
  • Ensure security compliance for apps and infra.
  • Develop unit, functional, and automated tests; maintain UML/API docs.
  • Collaborate across teams to design and implement technical solutions.

The ideal candidate will contribute across the full systems development lifecycle, support cloud-based applications, and enhance system reliability, performance, and security.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in all phases of the systems development life cycle including design, development, testing, deployment, and support.
  • Ensure that applications are running efficiently, optimally, and reliably in cloud-based environments.
  • Design, develop, support, and maintain integration solutions for high-volume data exchange.
  • Collaborate with development teams to identify inefficiencies and application limitations.
  • Support projects and initiatives that evolve system functionality to meet business requirements.

  • Evaluate business and technical requirements to design scalable architectures.
  • Must be available for on-call rotation.
  • Skilled in Swagger and OpenAPI for API documentation.
  • Ability to create system design documentation including UML diagrams and API specs.
  • In-depth understanding of Microservices and SOA architecture.
  • Experience improving API performance using caching, compression, and async processing.
  • Proficiency with Kafka and messaging systems.
  • Experience with relational databases (Oracle, MySQL, AlloyDB).
  • Experience with NoSQL databases (Cassandra, Redis).
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes for CI/CD.
  • Hands-on experience with GCP cloud.
  • Strong SQL query experience.
  • Knowledge of Unix commands and scripting using Shell and Python.
  • Experience with Akamai CDN and caching.
  • Experience using SonarQube for code quality.
  • Experience configuring application servers (Tomcat, JBoss, WebLogic, WebSphere).
  • Experience with API gateways such as Apigee.
  • Experience with Liquibase for DB versioning.
  • Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.
