Job description

Reflect Health is the evolution of S&S Health, a trusted independent third-party administrator founded in 1994 to meet the growing need for access, simplified connectivity, and benefits administration. Headquartered in Mason, OH, we have built a reputation based on innovation, service excellence, and a deep understanding of how to drive better outcomes at lower cost. Over the years, we grew into a national presence serving employers, TPAs, health systems, and benefit consultants across all 50 states. We developed proprietary claims technology, expanded our offerings to include level-funded and fully funded programs, and delivered tangible savings and enhanced experiences for millions of members.

The Systems Engineer owns the technical health of our claims platform (Impact) end to end — building and maintaining the applications, integrations, and database logic that power claims adjudication, while also applying broader systems engineering practices to keep the platform stable, secure, and scalable. This role blends hands‑on development (SQL, C#, scripting) with systems engineering (integrations, vendor management, infrastructure, disaster recovery) and deep claims domain knowledge. It's a hybrid position for someone who wants to build tools, keep critical systems running, and be the technical bridge between engineering, business stakeholders, and outside vendors.

Responsibilities
Platform Maintenance & Claims Systems
  • Perform ongoing maintenance and enhancements across the Impact claims platform, including code updates and performance improvements.
  • Establish and promote best practices and standards for claims adjudication and system architecture.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the engineering team on claims‑processing challenges and opportunities.
  • Apply working knowledge of claims processing and adjudication, with a solid understanding of healthcare claims management.
Development & Integration
  • Design, develop, and test system enhancements according to internal and client specifications.
  • Write and maintain advanced SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, and SSIS/SSRS packages.
  • Support and maintain existing codebase through refactoring and bug fixes; design for backwards compatibility and future expansion.
  • Use scripting (Python, PowerShell, or similar) to build tools and automate manual work.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to implement integrations tailored to client needs.
Systems Engineering & Operations
  • Monitor, maintain, and optimize networked software and associated operating systems supporting core business functions.
  • Design and perform system/security audits, backup procedures, and recovery processes aligned with disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
  • Propose and create system design models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to guide programmers and development teams.
  • Coordinate and perform in‑depth testing, including end‑user reviews, for modified and new systems.
  • Create and maintain documentation for system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
Vendor & Cross‑Functional Collaboration
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for vendors, ensuring effective communication and timely issue resolution.
  • Work closely with cross‑functional teams and stakeholders to facilitate system rebuilds or replacements in alignment with business goals.
  • Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure system‑related products and services.
  • Plan and help manage software development projects from requirements through delivery.
Qualifications
Knowledge & Experience
  • 3-5+ years of experience in database/application development, systems engineering, or a related technical role.
  • 3-5+ years of experience developing, maintaining, and supporting healthcare data integrations, including X12 EDI and custom data feeds for claims, authorizations, eligibility, remittance, and other healthcare transactions (ex: 837, 835, 999, 834, and 278).
  • Familiarity with the Impact system or similar claims management platforms is strongly preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of database development (MS SQL, C#) and DBC coding or similar languages (e.g., Cobol) is a plus.
  • Extensive experience with SQL and relational databases, including developing and troubleshooting complex queries, stored procedures, functions, views, and other database objects.
  • Proven experience with systems planning, security principles, and general software management best practices.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum and TDD/BDD practices is desired.
  • Healthcare industry and project management experience are a plus.
Skills & Attributes
  • Ability to comprehensively understand data sources, elements, and relationships in both business and technical terms.
  • Strong critical‑thinking and independent problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; able to translate between technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Self‑motivated, organized, and detail‑oriented, with a strong customer‑service orientation.
  • Comfortable prioritizing and executing multiple tasks in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment.
  • Collaborative, team‑oriented mindset with a desire to mentor and support other engineers.
