Job summary

The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is seeking a Systems Engineer to oversee and coordinate technical teams on DoD projects. You will ensure the design, implementation, operation, and technical management meet requirements.

The role emphasizes holistic systems engineering, stakeholder collaboration, and developing system architectures. Travel 10–25% as needed. Open‑rank announcement; candidates with related degrees are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

  • Experience designing/developing complex, software-intensive, military or avionics systems using system engineering processes.
  • Experience designing/developing software-based systems that integrate multiple subsystems, and/or integrate multiple software applications and hardware.
  • Experience integrating and troubleshooting systems to determine functional correctness, completeness, and/or effectiveness.
  • Experience leading small project development teams.
  • Active DoD Clearance (preferred).
  • Experience developing system design for Live, Virtual, Constructive aircraft training systems (preferred).
  • Experience technically leading multi-disciplined project teams (System/Software/Test).
  • Experience processing and analyzing data using languages such as Python (preferred).
  • Experience with avionic data buses (MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, Ethernet, RS-422, etc.) (preferred).
  • Experience in full-lifecycle agile and/or digital engineering environments (preferred).
  • Experience supporting field tests to troubleshoot and solve problems (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct top-down functional analysis and translate requirements into detailed design criteria.
  • Design templates to assist SMEs in providing critical system information.
  • Translate requirements into physical architectures for systems of low complexity, defining interfaces.
  • Contribute to and develop technical reports and diagrams detailing product or system attributes.
  • Integrate new capabilities and subsystems into military systems and manage interfaces.
  • Serve as a technical expert on assigned projects and roadmaps.
  • Isolate hardware and software anomalies.
  • Analyze flight and laboratory data to ensure system requirements are met.
  • Ensure all technical work meets military, safety, and security standards.
  • Design and manage laboratory configurations for assigned projects.
  • Lead small cross-discipline project teams.
