Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Systems Engineer, Autonomous Systems based in United States.

This role offers the opportunity to help shape the next generation of autonomous heavy-construction machinery. You will work at the intersection of systems engineering, robotics, machine learning, hardware, software, and functional safety. The focus is on developing autonomy capable of operating reliably in challenging, unstructured environments where safety and performance are critical. You will own requirements, verification and validation, simulation, and risk-management activities across the full development lifecycle. Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will translate complex technical requirements into robust, testable systems. This is an opportunity to solve difficult real-world autonomy problems and contribute directly to systems that can transform how construction work gets done.

Accountabilities
  • Own the complete requirements lifecycle, from eliciting and defining system and subsystem requirements to maintaining them across hardware, software, and machine learning components.
  • Establish and maintain rigorous requirements traceability, connecting high-level operational concepts to component specifications, verification methods, and test cases.
  • Develop, document, and execute comprehensive verification and validation strategies covering both simulated environments and physical field testing.
  • Build, script, and maintain simulation and validation tools used to evaluate vehicle performance, edge-case behaviors, system limitations, and safety boundaries.
  • Facilitate and contribute to FMEAs, Fault Tree Analyses, Hazard Analyses, and Risk Assessments to identify hazards and drive effective mitigation strategies.
  • Serve as a technical bridge across machine learning, embedded software, hardware, vehicle systems, and functional safety teams.
  • Support the full autonomous-system development lifecycle, from early-stage development and testing through field deployment and operational validation.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure system requirements and validation strategies reflect real-world operating conditions and the intended Operational Design Domain.
  • Help establish robust engineering practices that enable autonomous machinery to operate safely and reliably in complex, dynamic construction environments.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Robotics, Aerospace, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of post-academic systems engineering experience involving sophisticated, safety-critical cyber-physical systems such as autonomous vehicles, robotics, or aerospace systems.
  • Proven experience designing, documenting, and executing verification and validation programs for complex systems.
  • Strong programming or scripting capabilities in Python, C++, MATLAB/Simulink, or comparable technologies for developing simulation and validation tools.
  • Experience with structured systems engineering methodologies and requirements management platforms such as Jama, DOORS, or Jira.
  • Strong understanding of systems thinking and the ability to translate requirements and technical concepts across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Experience working with hardware, software, machine learning, and vehicle-level systems in a collaborative engineering environment.
  • Familiarity with functional safety standards such as ISO 26262, ISO 19014, ISO 21448/SOTIF, or IEC 61508 is highly valued.
  • Experience validating machine learning models, perception systems, or autonomy behavior in safety-critical applications is a plus.
  • Direct experience with heavy machinery, agricultural equipment, off-highway autonomous vehicles, or construction technology is preferred.
  • Familiarity with robotics middleware and frameworks such as ROS or ROS2 is advantageous.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering disciplines.
  • Comfortable working in an environment characterized by complex technical challenges, rapid iteration, ambiguity, and hands-on field testing.
Benefits
  • Competitive base salary range of $131,000-$228,000 USD per year, depending on experience, qualifications, education, location, and skills.
  • Eligibility for an annual performance bonus.
  • Competitive employee benefits package.
  • Fully remote position within the United States.
  • Visa sponsorship is available for eligible candidates.
  • Opportunity to work on advanced autonomous systems addressing real-world challenges in construction and heavy machinery.
  • Collaborative, multidisciplinary environment spanning robotics, AI, machine learning, hardware, software, and systems engineering.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, mentorship, professional development, and career growth.
  • Reasonable accommodations available throughout the application, interview, and employment process
