Job description

Sensor Systems Engineer – Foster City, CA

Onsite position with minimum 3 days in the office. May require minimal travel.

Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated Systems Engineer to join our Sensors Team. In this role, your responsibility includes improving the requirement traceability of the existing sensor architecture as well as defining top‑down requirements to guide investigation into the next generation sensor architecture. You will work closely with the autonomy system architects to synthesize the needs of the engineering, product, and safety teams to ensure our autonomous vehicles can operate safely and reliably in a wide range of real‑world scenarios. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in systems engineering, a deep understanding of autonomous sensing systems, and a passion for solving complex technical challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify, define, and analyze bounding use cases and challenging scenarios for our autonomous driving system.
  • Develop and document nominal system requirements for the autonomy sensor suite (including cameras, radar, and lidar) based on your analysis.
  • Perform trade studies and analysis to evaluate different system architectures and sensor configurations against known requirements.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software teams to ensure that the system design meets the documented requirements.
  • Create and maintain detailed technical documentation.
  • Present your findings to technical and non‑technical audiences.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Robotics, Physics, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in systems engineering, requirements analysis, or a similar role in the autonomous vehicle, aerospace, or robotics industry.
  • Proven experience in defining and analyzing complex systems and scenarios.
  • Strong understanding of sensor technologies, including cameras, radar, and lidar.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Experience using Python or other high‑level languages (e.g., Matlab) for analysis.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with state‑of‑the‑art perception and planning algorithms.
  • Familiarity with 3d modeling tools (e.g., Blender).
  • Experience with SQL.
  • Experience with Git.
