Job summary

The Planet Group is seeking a Systems Engineer for a growing semiconductor systems engineering company. The role focuses on industry standards, product alignment, and monitoring trends, working with R&D during design to ensure products meet evolving standards and market needs.

Responsibilities include participating in standards groups, engaging with customers, and influencing technical directions while collaborating across engineering, marketing, and product teams. Travel 20%+ is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required; Master’s preferred.
  • 10+ years of semiconductor product definition and/or standardization experience.
  • Direct experience with high-speed physical layer components (laser drivers, TIAs, DSPs, equalizers).
  • Strong understanding of optical link systems and technologies.
  • Experience participating in industry standardization bodies and technical working groups.
  • Strong analog/mixed-signal circuit knowledge and networking tech exposure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with cross-functional interfacing skills.
  • Willingness to travel 20%+ including international travel.

  • Prepare technical materials to support industry standardization efforts.

  • Engage with key customers to understand technical challenges and promote solutions.
  • Ensure alignment between product development and evolving high-speed networking standards.
  • Support cross-functional collaboration across engineering, marketing, and product teams.

Systems Engineer - 647267

Location: Remote (West Coast preferred; ideally onsite if located near Newport Beach, CA)
Pay Range: $150K – $250K DOE
Work Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (flexible)
Type of Employment: Permanent Hire

The Planet Group is currently seeking a Systems Engineer for a growing company in the semiconductor systems engineering industry. Qualified candidates must have strong experience in high-speed physical layer systems, optical link technologies, and semiconductor product definition or standardization processes.

Job Description

This role is not a full design engineering position. The Systems Engineer will focus on monitoring semiconductor industry trends, standards development, and product alignment strategy. The position works closely with R&D teams during the design phase to ensure next-generation products align with evolving standards and market needs.
The engineer will actively participate in industry standardization groups and maintain awareness of competitive and technological developments across the semiconductor ecosystem. The role includes customer engagement, technical influence, and participation in industry forums.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required (Master’s preferred)
  • 10+ years of semiconductor Product Definition and/or Standardization experience
  • Direct experience with high-speed physical layer components including laser drivers, TIAs, DSPs, and equalizers
  • Strong understanding of optical link systems and technologies
  • Experience participating in industry standardization bodies and technical working groups
  • Strong analog and mixed-signal circuit knowledgeExperience with networking technologies and high-speed data communication systems
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with ability to interface across all organizational levels
  • Self-driven with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment
  • Willingness to travel 20%+ including potential international travel
  • Must meet U.S. Person requirements per ITAR regulations (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, asylum/refugee status, or U.S. national)
