Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer 3 to support the development and integration of autonomous machine systems within the Loading, Dozing & Compaction Application Team.
The Systems Engineer will be responsible for defining system requirements and architecture, decomposing complex customer requirements into technical system-level requirements, and integrating multiple onboard electronic systems to deliver autonomous machine solutions.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience with autonomous systems, systems integration, CAN/Ethernet communication, validation, and vehicle or construction equipment systems.
Experience with centralized control architectures and autonomous mining or construction applications is highly preferred.
Required Education
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field from an accredited institution.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience working as a Systems Engineer on production products through design, implementation, customer rollout, and ongoing support.
- Experience defining system requirements and architecture for complex products.
- Ability to decompose complex customer requirements into achievable system-level technical requirements.
- Strong experience with systems integration and validation.
- Experience integrating hardware and software across multiple electronic systems.
- Experience with CAN and Ethernet-based systems integration.
- Experience working with autonomous systems, preferably autonomous machine or centralized control systems.
- Strong understanding of system-level design, development, testing, and validation.
- Highly detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to make sound technical decisions while balancing time, resources, cost, and quality.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering and cross-functional teams.

- Define system requirements and architecture for autonomous machine systems.
- Decompose customer requirements into L6 system-level requirements, including hardware and software requirements.
- Manage system-level requirements and associated features within DevOps.
- Ensure requirements are clearly documented, maintained, and traceable.
- Evaluate system requirements and develop technical solutions that balance performance, cost, resources, schedule, and quality.
Autonomous Systems Development
- Support the development and implementation of new autonomous system solutions and technologies.
- Apply autonomous technologies to semi-autonomous and fully autonomous machine systems.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for surface loading machine autonomous solutions.
- Work closely with Machine System teams to determine the best approach for delivering autonomous machine features.
- Support component selection and system-level integration.
Integration & Validation
- Coordinate the integration of multiple onboard electronic systems.
- Work closely with software, hardware, systems integration, and validation teams.
- Support system testing and validation in both laboratory and machine environments.
- Troubleshoot system-level integration issues and identify root causes.
- Evaluate system readiness and communicate technical risks to stakeholders.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with machine, software, hardware, validation, and systems engineering teams.
- Provide technical recommendations supported by data, analysis, and evidence.
- Communicate technical risks, system readiness, and project status to stakeholders.
- Build credibility as a technical subject matter expert within the organization.
- Stay current with advancements in autonomous systems, mining, construction, and machine technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Caterpillar Command or similar autonomous/centralized control ecosystems.
- Experience in mining, construction equipment, robotics, or autonomous vehicles.
- Experience with CANalyzer or similar CAN bus analysis tools.
- Experience managing system requirements in DevOps.
- Experience with autonomous machine architectures.
- Experience with vehicle electronic control systems and machine networks.
- Experience working with Articulated Dump Trucks, Hydraulic Excavators, Wheel Loaders, or similar heavy equipment.
