Job summary

NextGen Federal Systems seeks a Systems Engineer to support the DHS customer in Washington, DC. You will help design, integrate, test, and sustain TARS systems, ensuring reliability and performance across mission-critical domains.

The role requires 4+ years in related environments, DoW/DHS lifecycle knowledge, and MS Office proficiency. Some travel is expected, and candidates must obtain CBP background adjudication.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, systems engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering or closely related field.
  • Significant systems engineering experience in government or defense environment required, in lieu of degree (2 years).
  • At least 4 years of experience in DoW or DHS technical environments, systems lifecycle processes, and configuration management.
  • Experience with simulation systems, radar systems, or ISR platforms preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint).
  • Must obtain Positive adjudication from a CBP Background Investigation.
  • Position requires some travel.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct systems-level analyses and participate in requirements gathering, definition, and traceability.
  • Assist in the configuration, testing, and validation of software and hardware systems.
  • Troubleshoot system issues and coordinate resolution with technical teams and vendors.
  • Maintain technical documentation including interface control documents, system diagrams, and configuration records.
  • Provide engineering input for lifecycle management, upgrades, and system sustainment planning.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across engineering, logistics, and operations to optimize system effectiveness.

Job description

NextGen Federal Systems is seeking a Systems Engineer to work with us supporting our DHS customer in Washington, DC. The Systems Engineer supports the Tethered Aerostat Radar System (TARS) Program through the development, integration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex systems. This role is responsible for ensuring system functionality, reliability, and performance across mission-critical domains. The Systems Engineer collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to assess technical needs and provide scalable, sustainable engineering solutions.

Duties include but are not limited to
  • Support the design, integration, and implementation of TARS systems architecture and components.
  • Conduct systems-level analyses and participates in requirements gathering, definition, and traceability.

Required Education, Experience and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Significant systems engineering experience in government or defense-related environment required, in lieu of degree. (2 years)
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in the following:
  • Familiarity with DoW or DHS technical environments, systems lifecycle processes, and configuration management.
  • Experience with simulation systems, radar systems, or ISR platforms preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint.
  • Positive adjudication from a CBP Background Investigation.
  • Position requires some travel.
