Job summary

Acara Solutions is seeking a Systems Engineer to support the development and execution of safety programs for complex systems and mission-critical technologies. You will work closely with engineering teams and customer stakeholders to identify risks, develop safety documentation, and ensure system safety requirements are effectively implemented and validated.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
• 5+ years of experience in DO-178 and DO-254 development processes.
• 5+ years of experience in ARP4754/ARP4761 and MIL-STD-882E.
• 5+ years of experience in MIL-HDBK-516.
• 5+ years of experience in USAF Airworthiness Circular 17-01 (AC-17-01).
• 5+ years of experience with reliability assessments such as FMEA, FMECA, FTA, FRACAS and RCCA.

Responsibilities

• Develop System Safety Program Plans (SSPPs), Hazard Analyses, and Safety Assessment Reports in accordance with MIL-STD-882E.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to evaluate hardware, software, and operational interfaces and identify potential system risks.
• Partner with customer stakeholders to define, implement, and validate system safety requirements.
• Support verification and validation efforts by ensuring safety requirements are documented and traceable throughout the system lifecycle.
• Present system safety assessments, hazard analyses, and risk mitigation strategies during customer design review meetings.

Job Requirements

What You’ll Bring

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
• 5+ years of experience in DO-178 and DO-254 development processes.
• 5+ years of experience in ARP4754/ARP4761 and MIL-STD-882E.
• 5+ years of experience in MIL-HDBK-516.
• 5+ years of experience in USAF Airworthiness Circular 17-01 (AC-17-01).
• 5+ years of experience with reliability assessments such as FMEA, FMECA, FTA, FRACAS and RCCA.

What Sets You Apart

• Master's Degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
• Experience with NSA Type 1 certification or other SW certification such as DO-178/DO-254.
• Reporting hazardous materials (NAS-411).
• STAMP/STPA.
• Ability to internalize requirements definition and document System Safety artifacts in DOORS or Cameo
• Strong oral/written communication and customer interface skills a necessity and presentation skills.
• Strong investigation skills (able to identify hazards in the system and collaborate with multiple other engineers).
