Job summary

Acara Solutions is seeking a Systems Engineer in Palm Bay, FL to support safety programs for complex, mission-critical systems. You will develop SSPPs, perform hazard analyses, and collaborate with engineering teams and customer stakeholders to define and verify safety requirements.

The role requires 5+ years in DO-178/DO-254, ARP4754/ARP4761, MIL-STD-882E, and MIL-HDBK-516, with strong analytical and communication skills. Active Top Secret clearance eligibility is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in Computer/ Electrical Engineering or CS.
• 5+ years of experience with DO-178/DO-254 development processes.
• 5+ years with ARP4754/ARP4761 and MIL-STD-882E.
• 5+ years with MIL-HDBK-516 and USAF AC-17-01.
• 5+ years of reliability assessments (FMEA, FMECA, FTA, FRACAS, RCCA).

Responsibilities

• Develop System Safety Program Plans (SSPPs), Hazard Analyses, and Safety Assessment Reports in accordance with MIL-STD-882E.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to evaluate hardware, software, and interfaces and identify potential system risks.
• Partner with customer stakeholders to define, implement, and validate system safety requirements.
• Support verification and validation by ensuring safety requirements are documented and traceable through the lifecycle.
• Present system safety assessments and risk mitigation strategies during design reviews.

What You’ll Bring

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
• 5+ years of experience in DO-178 and DO-254 development processes.
• 5+ years of experience in ARP4754/ARP4761 and MIL-STD-882E.
• 5+ years of experience in MIL-HDBK-516.
• 5+ years of experience in USAF Airworthiness Circular 17-01 (AC-17-01).
• 5+ years of experience with reliability assessments such as FMEA, FMECA, FTA, FRACAS and RCCA.

What Sets You Apart

• Master’s Degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
• Experience with NSA Type 1 certification or other SW certification such as DO-178/DO-254.
• Reporting hazardous materials (NAS-411).
• Assessing Human Machine Interfaces (MIL-STD-1472).
• STAMP/STPA.
• Ability to internalize requirements definition and document System Safety artifacts in DOORS or Cameo
• Strong oral/written communication and customer interface skills a necessity and presentation skills.
• Strong investigation skills (able to identify hazards in the system and collaborate with multiple other engineers).
