Job summary

Responsibilities

• Work with NUWC Engineers to define integration, test, and evaluation standards for submarine weapons systems.
• Evaluate capabilities, architectures, requirements, risks, and processes for integration and evaluation.
• Design and implement test and evaluation strategies to assure system reliability.
• Develop and interpret requirements, drawings, data sets, and specifications.
• Collaborate with project teams to define engineering solutions meeting mission objectives.
• Resolve cost, schedule, and performance problems.
• Develop and maintain test procedures and tools.
• Incorporate DoD requirements into product definitions.

Job description

McLaughlin Research Corporation (MRC) is seeking a Systems Engineer who will support the Ocean Science, Autonomous Systems, and Ranges Department (Code 75) and others at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Newport, RI. The successful candidate will apply mechanical and model based systems engineering skills and experience to develop, integrate, and provide life cycle support for various launchers and payload systems, including unmanned undersea vehicles (UUVs). NUWC is the United States Navy's full-spectrum research, development, test and evaluation, engineering and fleet support center for submarines, autonomous underwater systems, and offensive and defensive weapons systems associated with undersea warfare. The successful candidate must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, schedule driven environment.

• Work with NUWC Engineers to establish standards, practices, and procedures for integrating, testing, and evaluating weapons systems used onboard Navy Submarines.
• Evaluate system capabilities, architectures, design concepts, requirements, risks, opportunities, and processes for integration, test, evaluation, and transition impacts.
• Design, develop, and implement test and evaluation strategies, plans and methods to assure reliability of systems in conjunction with system specifications and defined capabilities.
• Develop and interpret requirements, drawings, data sets, reports, and specifications
• Interface with other members of project teams to define and implement engineering solutions to meet systems mission objectives
• Resolve programmatic and technical problems that would affect cost, schedule, and performance.
• Develop, document and maintain test procedures, methods, and tools
• Integrate technical, cost, and safety considerations into the product definition to comply with Department of Defense requirements
• Perform system analyses, design studies, testing, and data collection/analysis
