Job summary

Everforth ECS seeks a Systems Engineer to support IL5/IL6 programs at Ft. Meade, MD. You will design, install, and maintain a DoD Mission Partner Enclave's physical and virtual network infrastructure, reporting to the Project Manager in a high-energy environment.

The role requires hands-on experience with VMware ESXi/vCenter, Hyper-V, VDI, and cloud services (AWS/Azure). You will ensure STIG compliance, perform security testing, incident response, and produce SOPs and CONOPS.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in CS/IS/STEM required.
  • Active DoD 8140 IAT Level II certification required (e.g., Security+ or CISSP preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience administering Windows and Linux environments.
  • Strong VMware (ESXi/vCenter) and virtualization experience with VDI.
  • Experience with AWS and Azure cloud services.
  • Proven capability implementing STIGs and security controls.

Responsibilities

Job description

Everforth ECS is seeking a Systems Engineer to work at our Ft. Meade, MD office.

Everforth ECS is seeking a Systems Engineer to support robust Impact Level (IL) 5 and IL6 programs in an operational DoW environment that houses multiple U.S. Coalition Mission Partner Environments (MPE). The Systems Engineer will work as part of a team responsible for designing, developing, installing, documenting, managing, and maintaining a DoD Mission Partner Enclave's physical and virtual network infrastructure. The Systems Engineer will work in a demanding, high-energy environment that requires innovative solutions to hardware, software, network, and operational challenges, and will report directly to the Project Manager.

This position is primarily responsible for the administration and coordination of activities that are inherent with a dynamic and innovative initiative. Support will be provided as needed, to management, network and cloud project team members, and activities. Duties include:

  • Install, configure, maintain, update, manage, and refine information systems.
  • Ensure system components maintain compliance with DoD requirements (e.g. STIGs).
  • Examine enclave vulnerabilities and determine actions to mitigate them.
  • Engineer and maintain VMware ESXi, VMware vCenter, Hyper-V, and enterprise virtualization infrastructure.
  • Support:
    • VMware ESXi, VMware vCenter, Hyper-V, and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI).
    • Out-of-band patching and upgrades; this may require non-standard working hours.
    • The development of cyber security policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Coordinate and/or provide support for all enclave applications and operations.
  • Recommend, schedule, and/or implement repairs within the enclave environment.
  • Develop and maintain images for virtual desktops and servers.
  • Evaluate system performance and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Schedule and perform backups on all enclave systems.
  • Conduct functional, interoperability, and security testing.
  • Analyze system performance for potential security problems.
  • Participate in technical incident response and security assessment activities.
  • Provide knowledge transfer to team members and clients as needed.
  • Write/edit and execute technical documents including, but not limited to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Concepts of Operation (CONOPS), network diagrams, and other documents, as required.
  • Travel to data centers as needed for maintenance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $140,000 - $160,000

  • Active DoD 8140 IAT Level II certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CISM, CISSP preferred).
  • Hands on experience managing and troubleshooting VMware environments in a production setting.
  • Proven expertise in administering core VMware products including vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi.
  • Experience configuring and managing VMware clusters, HA/DR (High Availability/Disaster Recovery), and resource pools.
  • Architect, deploy, and manage the end-to-end VMware infrastructure to ensure maximum uptime and system performance.
  • Conduct routine maintenance, capacity planning, and performance tuning across all VMware clusters.
  • 10+ years of experience administering, troubleshooting, and deploying solutions in Windows and Linux environment systems/applications.
  • Experience and proficiency working with AWS Cloud services and technologies including EC2, S3, RDS, EKS, VPC, and IAM or Azure Cloud services including VM, Storage account, RDS, AKS, VNet, and Entra ID.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex network environments to include TCP/IP and VLANs.
  • Experience in briefing, reporting, and providing technical status updates to leadership both in person and via virtual meetings.
  • Ability to pick up existing and new technologies quickly and document recommendations for government approval.
  • Experience with various technologies to apply Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) STIG requirements.
  • Support customer driven and standard maintenance windows.
