Job summary

Irby Utilities is hiring a Systems Developer I to support in-house application development, systems integration, and daily operations of the Systems Engineering team. You will work with Python (Django preferred), JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS, and learn to collaborate across layers of the infrastructure.

This role requires AGILE experience, debugging skills, and strong written and verbal English communications.

Qualifications

About the Role

A Systems Developer I supports ongoing projects revolving around in-house application development, systems integration, and with daily operations of the Systems Engineering team. System Developers will display a working knowledge of Python, Python frameworks (Django preferred), and front-end technologies (JavaScript, CSS) and have the ability to learn and adapt to an ever-changing landscape and be motivated to grow within this role. This position will also serve as a backup to the Sr Developer and will be expected to participate in maintaining daily operations tasks of the Systems Engineering team as provided by the Systems Engineering Manager and will coordinate with the rest of the team working on different layers of the infrastructure. Success in this role requires adaptability, collaborative problem solving, sophisticated design, and attention to quality.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Maintain aspects of full-stack development on Systems Engineering project, including database administration (MySQL), back-end coding and design (Python based), and front-end development (JavaScript, HTML5, CSS) within the Django Framework
• Assist with the maintenance of versioning infrastructure (Development Lab, git, etc)
• Troubleshoot end-user issues with in-house developed applications, including codebase issues
• Assist senior developers in application design, coding, and support
• Assist with security and data protection for Systems Engineering devices and developed applications
• Support deployment of virtual infrastructure including Virtual Machines, Virtual Networks, and Management Systems
• Assist with the documentation of all aspects of Systems Engineering processes, infrastructure, and project scopes
• Develop network and code knowledge to progressively adopt greater ownership of necessary projects
• Maintain project scopes and tasks adhering to the AGILE development principles
• Deliver project milestones in a timely and consistent manner
• Participate in on-call rotation for the Systems Engineering team

Minimum Qualifications

• Working knowledge of at least one Python web framework, Django preferred
• Familiarity with integration of multiple data sources and databases into one system
• Basic understanding of server-side templating languages, such as Jinja 2 or Mako
• Working knowledge of front-end technologies, such as JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS3 in order to develop front-end ui deliverable to end-users
• Basic understanding of accessibility and security compliance
• Basic understanding of user authentication and authentication and authorization between multiple systems, servers and environments
• Familiarity with AGILE development framework
• Basic knowledge of networking, primarily OSI layers 1-3
• Ability to troubleshoot server issues, primarily on Linux Distributions
• Ability to debug code errors
• Basic knowledge of vpn infrastructures, firewalls, and supporting out of band networks
• Basic understanding of code versioning tools
• Ability to collaborate effectively with the design team to understand end user requirements to provide technical solutions and for the implementation of new software features
• Knowledge of application deployment process and server set up
• Intermediate knowledge of Linux OS (RHEL/CENTOS/ALMA Linux preferred) with the ability to troubleshoot application issues from the OS CLI level
• Basic knowledge of virtualization processes via a hypervisor, VMWare preferred
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and working knowledge of Microsoft Office and relevant design software
• Ability to work effectively in both individual and team settings while taking ownership of deliverables
• Ability to receive and apply feedback and constructive criticism
• Ability to meet established deadlines while maintaining quality standards
• Ability to concisely document processes and designs for dissemination among team members

Preferred Qualifications

• 4 Year Degree in Computer Science or related field
• Working knowledge of Python or similar language with 1-2 years’ experience in Python development
