Job summary

Ford Motor Company is seeking a Software or Systems Engineer to join our Software Quality Assurance organization in Michigan. The role focuses on early defect detection and prevention to improve software quality across automotive platforms.

You will lead defect prevention, perform design reviews, and coach teams on ISO 26262 and ASPICE while collaborating with cross-functional groups across engineering, manufacturing, and supply chains.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience in automotive with focus on quality, warranty analysis, or V&V.
• 3+ years of defect detection and prevention methodologies.
• 3+ years' experience in software design reviews for architecture/quality.
• 2+ years of ISO 26262 Functional Safety implementation.
• 2+ years’ embedded software development with C/C++, AUTOSAR or similar tech.

Responsibilities

• Lead early defect detection and prevention strategies across software development.
• Define techniques for process improvement to raise software quality and reliability.
• Conduct software design reviews to ensure compliance with standards.
• Support Failure Mode Analysis (FMA) to identify and mitigate software risks.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve verification and validation processes.
• Analyze warranty, field, and test data to identify systemic software issues and drive corrective actions.
• Coach and train engineering teams on software quality best practices, ISO 26262 and ASPICE compliance.
• Contribute to process development and improvement within the software quality organization.

We are seeking a Software or Systems Engineer to join our Software Quality Assurance organization. This role is critical in driving early defect detection and prevention to enhance software quality across our automotive platforms. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a passion for coaching and training teams to improve software engineering practices.

What You’ll Do

• Lead early defect detection and prevention strategies across software development.
• Define methods and strategies for process improvement to enhance software quality and reliability.
• Conduct software design reviews to ensure compliance with architectural and quality standards.

• Partner with suppliers and internal teams to enhance software quality, focusing on infotainment, connected gateways, and telematics.
• Coach and train engineering teams on software quality best practices, including ISO 26262 (Functional Safety) and ASPICE compliance.
• Contribute to process development and improvement within the software quality organization.
• Effectively communicate complex software issues to both engineering teams and executive leadership.

You’ll have

• Bachelors Degree in Systems Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
• 10 or more years of software engineering experience in the automotive industry, with a strong focus on quality, warranty analysis, or verification & validation.
• 10 or more years of systems and Design and Release engineering experience int he automotive industry.
• 3+ years of proven expertise in software defect detection and prevention methodologies.
• 3+ years' experience in software design reviews to ensure compliance with architectural and quality standards.
• 3+ years of a strong background in experience with Failure Mode Analysis (FMA) for software systems.
• 2+ years of experience in ISO 26262 Functional Safety implementation and assessments.
• 2+ years' experience with embedded software development expertise, with experience in C/C++, AUTOSAR, or similar technologies.

Even better, you may have

• Knowledge of ASPICE and software process assessments.
• Experience in DevOps, continuous integration, and automated software testing.
• Understanding of open-source software compliance and cybersecurity best practices.
• Excellent communication, coaching, and training skills to drive cultural and technical improvements.
• Experience working with infotainment, connected gateways, or telematics is highly desired.

This position is a salary grade 6-8, and ranges from $74,300-$166,200.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.

Internal applicants: moving into this role may result in an adjustment to your current compensation based on the posted pay range for this role, taking into consideration your qualifications and other relevant factors.
