Job summary

The DEPT OF HEALTH SERVICES in Arizona seeks a Senior Systems Administrator to provide 2nd and 3rd tier server support, manage Windows Server environments, and ensure system availability across on‑prem and cloud platforms.

Responsibilities include administering AWS, Azure, and GCP, maintaining IIS and SQL Server, implementing security remediations, and collaborating with cross‑functional teams to support enterprise applications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree plus 5+ years in systems administration.
  • Experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, IIS, and group policies.
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, GCP and scripting in PowerShell.
  • Knowledge of PM, CQI, and Lean methodologies.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills.

Job Summary:

This position is required to provide IT technical support for Arizona Department of Health Services personnel, specifically related to server technology. This position will provide 2nd and 3rd tier server support. This position is responsible for server administration, system availability, backups, maintenance, system updates and upgrades. This position supports multiple platforms and applications, including AWS technologies, GCP, Azure, Intune, IIS servers, SQL servers, and other application servers as assigned.

Job Duties:

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide server support by updating, maintaining and troubleshooting server infrastructure including documentation of supported systems.
  • Advanced design, maintenance of and troubleshooting of IIS, SQL Server, Other Applications.
  • Administration of Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, and evaluation of new services.
  • Ongoing system security remediation of Windows based systems.
  • Other duties as assigned as related to the position.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Microsoft Windows Server including Microsoft Active Directory, DNS, IIS, Windows group policies.
  • AWS and Powershell scripting.
  • Performance Management (PM), and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and Lean methodologies.

Skilled in:

  • Computer/Network troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Organizational and time management skills.

Ability to:

  • Analyze, evaluate and draw conclusions.
  • Interact with government personnel and build relationships at all levels and across all business units and organizations.
  • Communicate effectively with the IT organization, project, and application development teams, management and business personnel.

Selective Preference(s):
  • Bachelor's degree plus 5 or more years of experience in systems administration (or equivalent experience).

Retirement:

To help you build a financially secure future, the State makes monthly contributions to finance your retirement benefit. The State will contribute to the ASRS in an amount equal to your contribution. In other words, you and the State will each pay 50% of total cost of the benefit. New State employees have a 27-week wait period for contributions to begin.
