Job summary

Raleigh Housing Authority is looking for a Systems Administrator to manage Windows servers, AD, DNS/DHCP, and core infrastructure in our Raleigh, NC campus. The role covers network, cybersecurity operations, and project-led modernization efforts.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in systems administration with strong PowerShell, backup, and DR planning skills, and hold an Associate or Bachelor's in IT or equivalent experience.

Qualifications

• Administer and maintain Windows servers, storage, backups, and core infrastructure systems.
• Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP.
• Design, implement, and support infrastructure improvements and modernization projects.
• Support backup systems, restoration testing, and disaster recovery / business continuity planning.
• Perform routine and advanced troubleshooting, patching, and root cause analysis.
• Monitor infrastructure alerts and system health; develop system standards and lifecycle planning.

Responsibilities

• Administer switches, firewalls, wireless infrastructure, VPNs, and routing.
• Troubleshoot network connectivity and performance issues; lead segmentation and performance optimization efforts.
• Maintain network documentation, inventory, and secure/resilient network architecture.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

• Administer and maintain Windows servers, storage, backups, and core infrastructure systems
• Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP
• Design, implement, and support infrastructure improvements and modernization projects
• Support backup systems, restoration testing, and disaster recovery / business continuity planning
• Perform routine and advanced troubleshooting, patching, and root cause analysis
• Monitor infrastructure alerts and system health; develop system standards and lifecycle planning

Network Administration

• Administer switches, firewalls, wireless infrastructure, VPNs, and routing
• Troubleshoot network connectivity and performance issues; lead segmentation and performance optimization efforts
• Maintain network documentation, inventory, and secure/resilient network architecture
• Coordinate ISP and vendor support, including circuit troubleshooting and management

Cybersecurity Operations

• Monitor and respond to security alerts, endpoint protection notifications, and cybersecurity incidents
• Lead and support vulnerability management, remediation, and patch compliance
• Manage MFA, conditional access, identity security controls, and endpoint protection / device compliance standards
• Implement and enforce security standards and best practices; support audits, compliance, and risk assessments
• Participate in and promote phishing awareness and cybersecurity initiatives
• Administer Microsoft 365 accounts, licensing, permissions, and architecture
• Manage Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Entra ID, and identity synchronization
• Support and manage mobile device management and Intune policies
• Develop automation and scripting solutions (PowerShell preferred); implement cloud governance and security standards

Technical Support, Leadership & Operations

• Serve as an escalation point for advanced help desk issues
• Mentor junior IT staff and lead technical projects and implementations
• Document technical procedures, standards, and resolutions; maintain accurate IT asset and configuration records
• Support technology deployments and upgrades
• Respond to after-hours emergencies and scheduled maintenance as needed

Projects

• Lead and execute assigned infrastructure and special projects
• Maintain documentation on projects and changes

Special Requirements

• Valid North Carolina (NC) driver’s license.
• Drug testing and criminal background check are required
• Ability to distinguish between network connections, cable labeling systems, and status indicators in support of troubleshooting and installation tasks

One of the following:

• Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field, combined with 5+ years of Network or Systems administration experience
• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field, combined with 3+ years of IT Network or Systems administration experience
• Equivalent combination of education and experience
