Job summary

Athens City Schools in Athens, Alabama seeks a System-Wide Instructional Aide for Special Education to support students and teachers throughout the school day.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, additional college hours or degree, background clearance, and an active ALSDE Substitute License. You will assist in classrooms, perform clerical tasks, and help maintain a safe, positive learning environment.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent with basic skills.
• Associate’s Degree or 48 semester hours or WORKKEYS test completed.
• Must pass background clearance as per Alabama statutes.
• Must hold and maintain an active ALSDE Substitute License.
• Adequate strength to perform tasks including lifting, stooping and bending.
• Interpersonal skills and good conduct are required.

Responsibilities

• Uphold school rules, policies, and procedures.
• Participate in the school’s efficient operation as directed by the principal.
• Respect confidentiality of information about students and staff.
• Assist in fostering positive student attitudes toward citizenship and self-discipline.
• Report to duty 15 minutes before opening and stay 10 minutes after close unless contract differs.
• Plan with assigned teacher.
• Work with students individually or in groups as assigned.
• Assist in testing activities as assigned.
• Keep charts/records of student performances and assist in preparing materials.
• Perform clerical tasks including inventory, filing, typing, and operating AV equipment.
• Assist teacher with basic physical needs of students.
• Follow safety precautions for students’ welfare.
• Attend professional development activities.
• Maintain cooperative relations with staff, parents, and community.
• Promote good public relations and keep school information confidential.
• Follow Board policies and assume other duties as assigned.
