Job summary

MedStar Health is seeking a System-Wide RN Clinical Bed Coordinator in the Baltimore area to coordinate patient placement and bed utilization across hospitals. You will collaborate with nursing leadership, transfer centers, EDs, and environmental services to optimize throughput and ensure appropriate placement based on clinical needs.

In this system-wide role, you will support admissions, transfers, and discharges while maintaining patient safety, regulatory compliance, and high-quality care.

Qualifications

• 5-7 years of progressively more responsible nursing experience.
• 1-2 years of leadership, charge nurse, or throughput experience.
• Advanced knowledge in bed management, patient flow systems, and related healthcare tech.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate patient placement and bed utilization across hospitals to support timely admissions and transfers.
• Liaise between departments, transfer center, and physicians to ensure prompt bed assignments and address issues.
• Determine bed availability with units, balancing census, acuity, and staffing to meet patient needs.
• Coordinate with EVS and other services to ensure timely room turnover and readiness for patient arrival.
• Assign beds based on clinical needs, admitting service coverage, and room capabilities.
• Oversee bed assignments and maintain accurate bed-tracking systems; help develop QA processes for access improvement.
• Collaborate with capacity leaders to identify opportunities for throughput improvements and communication of needs.
• Analyze throughput reports and provide recommendations to improve access.
• Attend daily huddles to communicate bed availability and prioritize patient placement.
• Apply evidence-based strategies to support successful throughput and safety goals.
• Report significant events and corrective actions as needed and maintain documentation.
• Maintain knowledge of trends in nursing management, bed management, and throughput.
