Job summary

Webb County is seeking an IT support specialist to maintain and operate the department's information technology systems, assist with equipment setup, and ensure proper installation of cables, operating systems, and software.

You will train users on enterprise servers and applications, troubleshoot PC, network, and hardware issues, monitor system operations, and assist with upgrades, inventory, and vendor coordination.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least 1 year of work experience in computers or network support.
  • Knowledge of IT systems and internal controls.
  • Ability to communicate in English and Spanish (oral).

Responsibilities

  • Assist in setting up equipment and ensuring proper installation of cables, OS, and software.
  • Train users on enterprise servers and applications.
  • Troubleshoot PC, network, and other IT hardware/software issues.
  • Monitor IT systems operations and resolve problems.
  • Research system additions and upgrades; make purchase recommendations.
  • Manage the IT equipment inventory and maintain printers/peripherals.
  • Install and repair radio communications equipment; maintain equipment in vehicles.
  • Maintain DVR camera system, fingerprint identification system, and telephone equipment.
  • Consult with hardware/software vendors for troubleshooting and resolution.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

This position provides technical support for the maintenance and utilization of the department's information technology systems.
  • Assists in setting up equipment for employee use; ensures the proper installation of cables, operating systems, and software.
  • Trains users in the proper utilization of enterprise servers/applications.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves PC, network connectivity, and other IT hardware/software issues.
  • Monitors IT systems operations to ensure operability; troubleshoots and resolves problems.
  • Researches system additions and upgrades; makes purchase recommendations.
  • Manages the department's IT equipment inventory.
  • Maintains printers and other peripheral devices.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs radio communications equipment.
  • Maintains electronic equipment and software in department vehicles.
  • Researches, gathers data, and prepares reports, presentations, and publications.
  • Maintains and repairs the DVR camera monitoring system.
  • Maintains the fingerprint identification system.
  • Maintains and repairs telephone equipment.
  • Consults with hardware and software vendors for troubleshooting and problem resolution.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Must have at least one ( 1 ) year of work experience in computers, network support, or a related field.
Complexity/Scope of Work
  • The work consists of related technical duties. Frequent technological changes contribute to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to provide technical support for the operation and maintenance of the department’s IT system. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of county operations.

  • The Webb County Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this position. Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, and a criminal background check are required.
  • This position is not covered under Civil Service; however, all other Webb County policies apply.
