BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina is seeking a mainframe systems specialist in Columbia. You will provide system support, installation, configuration, and tuning for mission-critical applications, ensuring reliable batch and online processing.

The role requires COBOL, JCL, CICS, and z/OS experience, with strong problem-solving and teamwork skills. On-site work is expected with a customer-focused, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a job-related field is required.
• Associates degree plus 2 years of related experience (total 4 years) acceptable.
• 2 years of technical experience in systems analysis, design, or programming.
• Good understanding of data storage, databases, and programming concepts.
• Knowledge of structured development methodologies and QA/CI practices.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills; able to handle pressure.

Responsibilities

• Perform installation, configuration, administration, implementation and tuning of applications.
• Provide support for production performance concerns; troubleshoot issues.
• Collaborate with internal groups and external vendors to meet specs.
• Monitor and report on batch and online applications; perform backups as needed.
• Review and create documentation for accuracy and future problems.
• Conduct testing activities as required and log/resolve abnormalities.
• Coordinate on-call communications to repair applications after failures.
• Take corrective actions where possible and escalate when needed.
• Participate in walkthroughs for quality and production implementations.

May run necessary system backups. Review and/or create documentation for accuracy, future problems, and company standards.Perform testing responsibilities as needed. Review all abnormal results/issues from previous processing cycles and verify that they have been logged/resolved.Communicate with applications on-call persons to repair applications that ended abnormally. May perform corrective actions whenever possible to fix applications that end abnormally and/or notify appropriate area for resolution.
