Overview

Astrion is currently looking for a System Safety Engineer to support our customer located at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL.

Duties Include, But Not Limited To

• Assist in the application and management of a System Safety Program for one or more weapon/combat systems in accordance with Mil-Std-882E and DA Pam 385-16.
• Conduct and coordinate system safety assessments and hazard analyses of hardware and software in various DoD weapon and combat systems (missiles, rockets, radars, launchers, communications) and related support equipment.
• Prepare, update, or assist in the development of Safety Assessment Reports, Hazard Analyses, and System Safety Risk Assessments.
• Prepare, review, or input to System Safety Management Plans (SSMPs), System Safety Program Plans (SSPPs), and related safety documentation for weapon/combat systems.
• Conduct or review safety assessments of hardware and software modifications, including change, waiver, and exemption requests.
• Assess design and system test documentation for safety requirements and testing to verify/validate system safety.
• Perform Technical Safety Reviews and develop documentation for Government acceptance.
• Perform soldier interface safety assessments on weapon/combat systems and support equipment.
• Coordinate with government and contractor engineers, technical and test agency personnel, and Safety Office representatives to review safety documentation, test reports, data, and incident data, and assess safety implications and risks.
• Review contractor documentation for safety implications, assess risks, and coordinate mitigation strategies.

Responsibilities

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance at the required level.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required.
• Mid-Level Engineer should have 6-10 years of applicable System Safety experience.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and independently.
• Willingness to travel up to 20%.
