Job description

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in an engineering or related discipline. or equivalent experience/combined education, with 5 years of professional experience; or 3 years of experience required with a related Master’s degree.
• Familiarity or experience with engineering processes related to safety and risk management in an operations/ sustainment environment. Specifically, experience with processes as outlined in MIL-STD-882E, the System Safety Standard.
• US Citizenship required to start with the ability to acquire a Secret security clearance.

Lockheed Martin Space in Huntsville, AL has an immediate opening for a System Safety Engineer to help field a new weapon system that the nation urgently needs, the Long Range Hypersonic Weapon (LRHW). In this role, you will use your expertise to ensure that safety is crafted into hardware and software products and that controls are incorporated and remain effective while assuring compliance to safety requirements.

• Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.
• Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
• Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

• Experience in System Safety Engineering processes as outlined in MIL-STD-882E with strong technical skills in performing hazard analyses, identifying safety requirements, developing fault trees, and recommending risk mitigation.
• A highly desired skill would be the ability to read software code and/or prior experience working with software requirements validation and verification.
• Prior experience working with Missile Defense Agency (MDA) or other Department of Defense (DOD) customers.
Familiarity or experience with missile systems, ordnance, and software.
• Understanding of incident investigations and root cause and corrective actions.
• Familiar with software engineering processes and agile SW development methods

Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. National Pay Statement

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Washington or Washington DC is $85,500 - $150,765. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays.
(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
This position is incentive plan eligible.
