Job summary

Duke Energy Florida is seeking candidates for the Associate Dispatcher (System Operator) role in the Energy Control Center. This is a training position to develop proficiency in dispatcher functions through classroom, on-the-job, field experience, and power system simulation.

Participants will complete the Dispatcher Qualification Program in approximately 12–15 months and will work 12-hour rotating shifts, onsite, with potential relocation assistance as applicable.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Electrical Technology or equivalent with 6 years of related experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field may replace the associate degree with 6 years of experience.
• Military certifications may be accepted in lieu of the two-year degree.

Responsibilities

• Complete Duke Energy's Dispatcher Qualification Program during the initial 12–15 months of employment.
• Operate and maintain the high voltage transmission system safely, reliably, and economically.
• Coordinate switching for maintenance and power restoration; optimize resources to regulate system voltage.
• Analyze the high voltage system to identify contingencies and implement contingency plans.
• Work a 12-hour rotating shift; on-site, with possible travel as needed and relocation assistance as applicable.

Education

Associate degree in Electrical Technology

Bachelor's degree in a technical field (in lieu of associate)

Military certifications may be accepted in lieu of the two-year degree
