Job summary

System One is seeking a System Design Engineer for Sodium Cover Gas Systems. This long-term contract role is remote–offsite with compensation $69.00–$115.00 per hour.

The engineer will design fluid systems from requirements to commissioning, collaborate across disciplines, and oversee supplier development for gas processing equipment. Ideal candidates hold a BS in Mechanical, Chemical, or Nuclear Engineering with 10+ years of direct experience, familiarity with ASME BPVC, API, and piping design,

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Chemical, Nuclear Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years direct experience with proven mechanical systems skills.
• Experience reading and drawing P&IDs.

Job description

Job Title: System Design Engineer, Sodium Cover Gas Systems
Type: Long-term Contract
Compensation: $69.00 - $115.00
Work Model: Remote – offsite

Responsibilities

• Design of fluid systems from development of requirements through final design and commissioning.
• Perform technical trade studies and decisions to refine system design.
• Oversee suppliers during development, fabrication, and testing of gas processing, filtration, and monitoring equipment.
• Review component designs in the context of the greater system design to determine how detailed design of components impacts the greater system.
• Prepare system level engineering documentation including technical specifications and operations narratives.
• Review system documentation to anticipate and resolve system and plant level integration issues before they are realized.
• Support design reviews as system designs are established and refined.
• Develop and review technical design documents, such as System Design Descriptions, Interface Control Documents, Engineering Design Specifications, etc.
• Generate design packages for system designs including coordinating of calculations, design reports, drawings, and specifications.
• Interface with the design team to create and manage drawing packages of system designs, including but not limited to Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), 3D models, and system interface drawings.
• Collaborate with various design disciplines (mechanical, instrumentation and controls, civil, nuclear) to identify and develop system design and performance criteria.
• Propose and initiate testing programs for system development and qualification.
• Utilize various codes, including B31.3 and ASME BPVC Sections III and VIII.

Requirements

• B.S. in Mechanical, Chemical, Nuclear Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited university and 10+ years direct experience with proven mechanical systems skills.
• Experience with piping systems and the ability to read and draw P&IDs.
• Experience working with suppliers in development and fabrication of safety-related equipment.
• Strong understanding of design codes (ASME, BPVC, API).
• Familiar with safety classifications of systems, structures, and components.
• Familiar with piping design and analysis.
• Experience working to quality standards on design activities, such as ASME NQA-1, AS 9100, ISO 9001, or equivalent.
• Must be a self-starter and possess ability to coordinate with minimal direction.
• Ability to handle projects that include many competing objectives and design constraints, with ability to resolve conflicts between objectives.
• The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, able to communicate openly, and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.
• Attention to detail and aspiration for technical excellence.
• Excellent technical writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
