Job summary

Nokia is seeking a System Design Engineer to analyze carrier networking environments and craft optimized solutions. You will collaborate with Marketing, PLM, Sales, Optical, and Software Engineering to ensure robust network design and deployment, and support RFP/RFQ responses.

Key responsibilities include acting as a subject matter expert for field teams, researching technical specs, and developing transition strategies for new products and platforms.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Engineering, CS, or Physics required; PhD preferred.
• 5+ years of relevant industry experience; 3+ years in 3rd party network design or optimization tools preferred.
• Experience with carrier-class networking architectures (WDM, IP/MPLS/GMPLS/Ethernet).
• Sales engineering or product management experience desirable.
• Proficiency in scripting with Excel, Matlab, Python, or similar.
• Strong knowledge of optical and DWDM provisioning, testing, and design.
• SQL and relational databases familiarity, and programming in Perl, C++, Java, or VB.
• Ability to work independently and with remote teams.

Responsibilities

• Support RFP/RFQ network design responses and optimization.
• Serve as SME, guiding field team for network planning and deployment.
• Research and develop technical specifications; evaluate vendor options.
• Design optimal architecture for new products and platforms using transition strategies.
• Create tools to empower sales engineers in designing network responses.
• Analyze network designs and economic implications of roadmap features.
