Job summary

Nokia is seeking a System Design Engineer to analyze carrier networking environments and craft optimized solutions. You will collaborate with Marketing, PLM, Sales, Optical, and Software Engineering to ensure robust network design and deployment, supporting RFP/RFQ responses and field planning.

The role calls for a Masters in engineering, CS, or physics, with 5+ years in the field and 3+ years in third party design tools.

Qualifications

• Master's degree required in Engineering, CS, or Physics.
• 5+ years of relevant industry experience, with 3+ years in 3rd party network design/optimization tools.
• Working knowledge of carrier-class networking architecture: WDM, IP/MPLS/GMPLS/Ethernet.
• Functional experience in sales engineering or product management is essential.
• Proficiency in writing scripts using Excel, Matlab, Python or similar tools.
• Experience with tools such as OPNET, VPISystems, RSoft, Wandl, Cariden is highly desirable.
• Strong skills in Optical Link Budget Engineering, Non-Linear simulation, and Layer 1 networking.
• Experience in provisioning, installation, and testing of DWDM systems is an advantage.
• Excellent scripting, Excel, and SQL skills; familiarity with Perl, C++, Java or Visual Basic.

Responsibilities

• Support RFP/RFQ Network Design responses and network optimization.
• Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for field network planning and deployment.
• Research and develop technical specifications and evaluate vendor options.
• Design architecture using network transition strategies for new products.
• Create tools to empower sales engineers in designing network responses.
• Conduct economic analyses of networking models and technologies.
• Analyze network designs and roadmap features for business impact.
• Collaborate with Marketing, PLM, Sales and Engineering to align on solutions.
• Stay updated on industry trends to keep solutions cutting-edge.
