A leading university is seeking a System Administrator II to oversee server management with expertise in Windows and Linux environments. This role involves planning, installation, troubleshooting, and providing technical support to ensure optimal campus-wide system functionality. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in a technology-related field and substantial experience in systems administration.
The System Administrator II will have a full scope of understanding of server administration at the intermediate to advanced level for Windows and/or Red Hat Linux based servers to include planning, installation, documentation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and overall support. The System Administrator II will have the ability to install, configure, maintain, and document multi-system solutions that pertain to campus-wide systems, backup systems, server firewalls, security, etc., and the ability to troubleshoot all appropriate systems. In addition, this position will provide technical support and assist with troubleshooting on assigned work orders and projects for new and existing hardware and software systems. The System Administrator II will have the intermediate to advanced level ability to install, configure, implement, and document network-related issues and problems as it pertains to servers, storage arrays, firewalls, and general connectivity, and the ability to troubleshoot all such systems.
Server administration:-40%
Plan, install, document, maintain, and support Windows and/or Linux based servers
Maintain and document server adds, changes, and deletes from server inventory list
Develop, maintain, plan, and troubleshoot server virtualization
Design, install, document, maintain, and support storage arrays
Effectively communicate with Office of Technology staff, campus users, and vendors
Define, implement, and maintain server firewalls and rules
Systems support:-25%
Intermediate understanding and application of authentication, routing, switching, security, application, installation, etc.
Conduct IP management using standard best practices
Apply and administer security practices
Conduct appropriate backup and recovery procedures of servers, data, operating systems, and tape libraries
Intermediate understanding of authentication (ADS,LDAP, etc.)
Technical support and troubleshooting:-20%
Ability to troubleshoot intermediate server hardware and software related issues and problems
System design and engineer for intermediate technical projects
Create, develop, and apply scripts to meet defined needs
Document and improve processes and procedures

Research, plan, implement, document and apply system patches and updates
Troubleshoot and resolve immediate network related issues and problems
Monitor, evaluate, and implement configuration changes to operating system efficiency
