Job summary

Solid Power is seeking a Synthesis Slurry Intern to join our team of engineers and scientists advancing next‑gen all solid‑state batteries. The ideal candidate is an undergraduate or graduate student in chemistry, materials science, or a related field.

The role involves collaborating with engineers to optimize synthesis routes for sulfide solid-state electrolytes, performing material characterization, data acquisition, and analysis, with 15–20 hours per week during fall semester.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing Chemistry, Materials Science, or related degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Experience in material characterization techniques including rheology, DSC/TGA/SDT, XRD, FTIR, EIS.
  • Experience in synthetic and/or analytic chemistry.
  • Comfort with safe handling of hazardous materials and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with engineers to execute planned experimentation to optimize synthesis routes for sulfide solid-state electrolytes.
  • Assist engineers in material characterization, data acquisition, and analysis.
  • Perform regular and required housekeeping.
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials and equipment properly.
  • Communicate experimental results to a broad audience and contribute to brainstorming.

Position Overview

Solid Power is seeking a Synthesis Slurry Intern to join our talented team of engineers and scientists working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next generation, all solid-state rechargeable batteries. Solid Power is a dynamic, fast-paced, collaborative, and innovative team environment. The preferred candidate is currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies focused on materials, chemistry, engineering or related field.

Job Duties
  • Work closely with and under the direction of Engineers to execute planned experimentation aimed at optimizing current synthetic and process routes for sulfide solid state electrolytes.
  • Assist Engineers in material characterization, data acquisition, and analysis.
  • Perform regular and required housekeeping.
  • Handling and proper disposal of hazardous materials and equipment.
  • Communicate experimental results to a broad audience and participate in experimental brainstorming and planning.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Pursuing Chemistry, Materials Science, or related degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Experience in material characterization techniques including rheology, DSC/TGA/SDT, XRD, FTIR, EIS.
  • Experience in synthetic and/or analytic chemistry.
  • Comfort with safe handling of hazardous materials and equipment is required.
  • Knowledge of Li-ion battery materials optimization.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite.
Physical Requirements
  • Some prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
  • Some prolonged periods of standing
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs daily.
  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary including, but not limited to eye protection, hair net, gloves, face mask, coveralls, full-face respirator or PAPR.

Hourly Compensation: $25/hour

Schedule: 15-20 hours per week during fall semester
