Job Description

Elementary Teacher for W. M. Bass Elementary, responsible for teaching Fourth Grade and supporting student academic, emotional, physical, and social growth.

Responsibilities
  • Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in core academic subjects to help them reach their potential.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that meet the district’s curriculum program, including written evidence of preparation.
  • Prepare lessons accommodating differences in student learning styles.
  • Present subject matter following Lynchburg City Schools guidelines, board policies, and regulations.
  • Plan and use instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that meet student learning needs.
  • Assess student learning styles and use results to guide instructional planning.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students as required by Individual Education Plans.
  • Work with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
  • Use technology to strengthen teaching and learning.
  • Help students analyze and improve study habits.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement via formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for assigned extracurricular activities and sponsor outside activities approved by the principal.
  • Serve as a positive role model and support the school district mission.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and suitable for students’ physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Manage student behavior in alignment with the Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
  • Ensure necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and instructional materials.
  • Keep open communication through conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Participate in staff development to improve job-related skills.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain, and file required records and reports.
  • Attend faculty meetings, serve on staff committees, and participate in student/parental involvement activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
