Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of field repair or customer service with UPS, electrical, electro-mechanical, or electronics equipment.
  • Experience with UPS, switchgear, batteries, monitoring equipment, and generators.
  • NETA or NICET Level II+ certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review technical specifications with sales and project management teams to define project scope and field operations.
  • Collaborate with service teams to ensure compliance with project specifications and contractual commitments.
  • Provide technical support for job-specific challenges and interface with manufacturers to resolve site-related issues.
  • Perform QA/QC on power distribution equipment.
  • Create and maintain MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs for critical power systems.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and service on contracted electrical gear.
  • Install, service, and troubleshoot power distribution equipment (low/medium/high voltage switchgear, ATS, circuit breakers).
  • Read relay settings and logic to confirm operation.
  • Provide status updates to project managers and leadership.
  • Prepare testing reports and inspection documentation.
  • Participate in commissioning and testing of electrical systems.
  • Travel up to 50% for onboarding and site visits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Join a leading provider of mission-critical electrical services in the Houston area as a Switchgear Technician 4. This role offers the opportunity to work with advanced power distribution equipment in data centers and other high-reliability environments. As a key member of the technical team, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems that are essential to client operations. The position requires up to 50% travel, including initial onboarding and training, and offers the chance to develop your expertise while supporting critical infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities
  • Review technical specifications with sales and project management teams to define project scope and field operations.
  • Collaborate with service teams to ensure compliance with project specifications and contractual commitments.
  • Provide technical support for job-specific challenges and interface with manufacturers to resolve site-related issues.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) on power distribution equipment.
  • Create and maintain Method of Procedures (MOPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs) for critical power systems.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and service on contracted electrical gear and components.
  • Install, service, and troubleshoot power distribution equipment, including low, medium, and high voltage switchgear, relay panels, transformers, automatic transfer switches (ATS), and circuit breakers.
  • Examine relay settings and logic equations to confirm system operation according to design specifications.
  • Provide regular status updates and feedback to project managers and service operations leadership.
  • Prepare site testing reports and inspection documentation as required by project specifications.
  • Participate in specialized commissioning and testing of electrical systems.
  • Respond to service calls and conduct site visits as directed.
  • Travel up to 50% of the time, including initial onboarding and safety training at a company site (travel expenses covered).
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Services Management.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; associate or bachelor’s degree in electronics, electrical theory, or a related discipline highly desirable, or equivalent work experience.
  • 2-5 years of experience working with mission-critical electrical systems required.
  • 3-5 years of field repair or customer service experience with UPS, electrical, electro-mechanical, or electronics-related equipment, or 3-5 years of mission-critical product experience required.
  • Experience with electrical power distribution equipment, including UPS, switchgear, batteries, monitoring equipment, and generators.
  • Strong understanding of NETA, IEEE, and NEMA standards for low and medium voltage switchgear.
  • Hands-on experience with the operation, maintenance, testing, disassembly, inspection, repair, and reassembly of low and medium voltage switchgear.
  • Ability to read and interpret one-line and three-line diagrams, blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings.
  • Technical writing skills and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and MS Project.
  • Familiarity with specialized testing equipment and reporting software.
  • NETA or NICET Level II or above certification highly preferred.
  • NFPA 70E Low Voltage and High Voltage certification preferred.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time, including for initial onboarding and training.
