Job summary

The Division of Developmental Disabilities at the Shapiro Center in Kankakee, Illinois, is hiring a Switchboard Operator I to manage a 24-hour facility switchboard, greet visitors and perform clerical tasks.

This union position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and offers a rotating schedule with in-office work. Comprehensive benefits are provided under the State of Illinois employee program, including holidays, personal days, and parental leave.

Qualifications

• Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of high school.
• Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine work in operating a Department of Human services 24-hour, facility switchboard carrying a heavy traffic load.
• Responds to and maintains records for emergency calls such as fire, medical, police etc.
• Serves as receptionist.
• Receives and sorts facility mail.
• Performs routine clerical tasks involving the operation of simple manual or automated office equipment.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the duties enumerated above.

Rotating relief schedule, 2 days per week 10:30pm-6:30am, 3 days per week 9:30am-5:30pm OR 12pm-8pm if prior shift worked was 10:30pm-6:30am. Rotating every 3 weeks:

WEEK 2 – Work Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri, Off Mon, Sat & Sun
