Job summary

South Kitsap School District is seeking a Substitute Custodian for swing shift coverage in Port Orchard, Washington. The role involves cleaning, floor care, rest-room sanitation, and event setup across district facilities.

Shifts may run 2:30 PM–11:00 PM, Monday–Friday, with some Saturdays as needed. Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent, custodial experience preferred, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs (75 lbs occasionally).

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent required.
• Custodial experience preferred.
• Experience in general light trades such as carpentry, painting, plumbing or electrical.
• Completed online application is required.
• Knowledge of general cleaning procedures.
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and their safe use.
• Skill in operating general custodial equipment.
• Ability to work independently and as a team member.
• Ability to oversee general building security.
• Ability to follow schedules and respond to staff requests.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs occasionally.
• May be required to obtain CPR and maintain First Aid certification.
• Must complete safety awareness training when employed.
• Washington State Patrol and FBI Fingerprint Background Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Sweeps and mops floors; strips and waxes floors per schedule.
• Vacuums and shampoos carpets.
• Dusts surfaces and cleans walls, desks, and windows as needed.
• Picks up waste papers and empties trash containers.
• Cleans rest rooms; sanitizes sinks, toilets, and urinals; replenishes supplies.
• Sets up tables, chairs, and equipment for events.
• Ensures doors and windows are locked and building secured after hours.
• Performs minor repairs; reports emergencies and necessary repairs.
• Keeps cleaning equipment in proper operating condition.
• Assists with after-school or evening activities as assigned.

Education

High school graduation or equivalent

Custodial experience preferred

Experience in general light trades (carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical)
