Job summary

Pipestone is seeking an Animal Care Technician to work hands-on with pigs in a modern swine facility. You will support animal health, welfare, and daily farm operations, with paid overtime opportunities and hands-on training.

Qualifications

• No experience required; training is provided.
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Commitment to animal welfare, safety and biosecurity.
• Working in a swine unit with exposure to loud noises, odors and varying temperatures.
• Working with live animals in close quarters.

Responsibilities

• Learn and monitor pig health and well-being while providing daily animal care.
• Ensure pigs have access to feed, water, air and a comfortable environment.
• Assist with breeding, gestation, farrowing and piglet care.
• Follow production protocols to maximize sow production and efficiencies.
• Administer vaccinations, medications and health treatments as directed.
• Monitor feed intake and adjust feeding programs as necessary.
• Observe animal behavior and report concerns promptly per protocol.
• Assist in farrowing and newborn piglet care, including feeding.
• Assist in breeding activities including artificial insemination and pregnancy checks.
• Operate and maintain equipment used in swine production.
• Maintain accurate records of animal health, treatments and performance.
• Communicate effectively with colleagues and farm management.
• Follow animal welfare and biosecurity regulations and company policies.
