Job summary

The YMCA of Western North Carolina seeks a Swim Team Assistant Coach at the Hendersonville Family YMCA. Lead practice groups, coach strokes, attend meets, and uphold core values of honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility to foster character and competitive swimming skills.

You will communicate with swimmers and parents, ensure safety, and maintain records while promoting sportsmanship and professional conduct in a dynamic youth aquatic program.

Qualifications

• 1-year minimum experience as a competitive swimmer required.
• Coaching experience is preferred.
• If no coaching experience, then instructional experience required.
• Must have current safety certifications, including CPR & AED, First Aid, Lifeguarding, or Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches.
• Must be at least 15 years of age or older.

Responsibilities

• Organizes and leads practice sessions for designated practice groups according to Swim Team Director’s weekly and seasonal plan.
• Teaches and corrects stroke techniques for injury prevention and improvement in competition.
• Attends all swim meets and meetings as designated by the Swim Team Director.
• Ensures the safety of all participants.
• Exhibits the YMCA’s core values of honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility, as well as sportsmanship, punctuality, and fairness.
• Maintains attendance and practice agenda records.
• Be available to communicate with swimmers and parents before and after practice sessions.
• Maintains harmonious and cooperative relations with YMCA staff, members, and program participants.
