YMCA of Greater Kansas City is seeking a Swim Lesson Instructor (and Lifeguard) to teach swimming skills that build confidence and water safety. You may also earn as Lifeguard at $15.91/hr. The role includes lesson planning, class attendance, and maintaining certifications through YMCA training programs.

No certification? The YMCA provides free training and certification to help you succeed. Flexible schedules and ongoing training are offered as part of a strong team culture.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• National CPR, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen and YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor certification. Free training provided if not certified.
• Must pass skills test including treading water and demonstrating strokes.

Responsabilités

• Enforce safety rules for all participants.
• Teach swim lessons to various age groups per course guidelines.
• Plan lessons, stay prepared for each class.
• Set up and teardown of lesson equipment.
• Take attendance for all classes.
• Maintain and update certifications through YMCA training programs.
• Assist in pool cleanliness and report maintenance needs.

*Candidates who are not certified may be hired at at a $15.00 training rate then increased after becoming certified.

Responsibilities

• Enforce all posted rules and any other rules that are required to ensure the safety of all participants.
• Teach swim lessons to participants at appropriate age levels, per national guidelines of course levels and ratios.
• Plan lessons for classes, be well prepared for lesson.
• Responsible for set up and tear down of lessons (includes all utilized equipment).
• Take attendance at all classes.
• Responsible for updating all areas and certifications through the YMCA training certification program as needed for position.
• Responsible to assist in the cleanliness of the pool and reporting any maintenance needs.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• National CPR, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen and YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor certification. Not certified? No problem — we provide free training and certification!
• Must pass skills test that includes:
  • Tread water for two minutes.
  • Demonstrate Stage 5 proficiency in at least four of the following six strokes by swimming 25 yards of each: Front Crawl, Breaststroke, Sidestroke, Butterfly, Elementary Backstroke, and Backstroke.
• Must be able to relate and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner.
