Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Kansas City is hiring a Swim Lesson Instructor to teach swimming, promote water safety, and help participants gain confidence and have fun. No certification? The YMCA provides free training and certification to get you ready for success.

You may also be eligible for Lifeguard duties; earn $15.91/hr with flexible schedules and opportunities for advancement. Responsibilities include enforcing safety rules, planning lessons, setting up equipment, taking attendance, updating

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• CPR, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen and YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor certifications required or provided.
• Must pass skills test including treading water and stroke demonstration.

Responsibilities

• Enforce all posted rules for safety of participants.
• Teach swim lessons to various age groups per guidelines.
• Plan lessons and be prepared for classes.
• Set up and tear down of lesson areas and equipment.
• Take attendance at all classes and track progress.
• Maintain and update certifications as required.
• Assist in pool cleanliness and report maintenance needs.

*Candidates who are not certified may be hired at a $15.00 training rate then increased after becoming certified.

Responsibilities

• Enforce all posted rules and any other rules that are required to ensure the safety of all participants.


• Teach swim lessons to participants at appropriate age levels, per national guidelines of course levels and ratios.


• Plan lessons for classes, be well prepared for lesson.


• Responsible for set up and tear down of lessons (includes all utilized equipment).


• Take attendance at all classes.


• Responsible for updating all areas and certifications through the YMCA training certification program as needed for position.


• Responsible to assist in the cleanliness of the pool and reporting any maintenance needs.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age.


• National CPR, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen and YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor certification. Not certified? No problem — we provide free training and certification!


• Must pass skills test that includes:
  
  
  
  • Tread water for two minutes.
  
  
  • Demonstrate Stage 5 proficiency in at least four of the following six strokes by swimming 25 yards of each: Front Crawl, Breaststroke, Sidestroke, Butterfly, Elementary Backstroke, and Backstroke.
  
  


• Must be able to relate and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner.
