Swim Instructor - YMCA of Frederick County

Position Summary: Conducts swim lessons using the National YMCA Aquatic programs. This position performs tasks in accordance with the values, mission, and policies of the YMCA.

Knowledge and Skills: Ability to demonstrate understanding of member service, effective time management, excellent communication skills, interpersonal and organizational skills. Must exemplify a “Y-Voice” demonstrating determination, genuine concern, welcoming attitude, hopefulness, and a nurturing spirit. Understand ethical behavior and business practices, maintain a high work ethic, and ensure organizational accountability.

Essential Functions:

  • Instruct assigned lessons within YMCA guidelines.
  • Demonstrate swimming skills and explain them clearly.
  • Prepare and utilize lesson plans.
  • Stay updated on best practices in swim instruction.
  • Respond to patron concerns promptly.
  • Report incidents and concerns to management.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Follow all policies and procedures outlined in the Employee and Aquatics Handbooks.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • CPR/AED certification for adults, children, and infants (may be acquired after hire).
  • Ability to understand instructions, read policies, and communicate effectively.
  • Minimum age: 16 years.
  • At least 2 months of swim instructor or aide experience.
