Job summary

Geauga YMCA in Chardon, Ohio, is seeking a Swim Instructor to plan and deliver lessons using the Y USA curriculum for members, participants and non-members. Instructors must be punctual, professional and safety-focused while engaging with participants and parents.

Must have CPR/First Aid within 30 days; WSI/YSI preferred or obtained within 90 days. Responsibilities include on-time starts, safe instruction, and maintaining a positive, supportive environment.

Qualifications

• Public speaking and customer service orientation.
• At least 6 months of instructor experience in designated aquatic area preferred.
• CPR and First Aid certification and Safety training required within 30 days of hire.
• Current swim instructor (WSI or YSI) certification preferred or obtained within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate skills and explain them clearly to class members.
• Plan each teaching class with proper materials and start on time.
• Ensure safety rules are followed and maintain a clean pool area.
• Notify supervisor of any problems; arrange qualified substitutes if needed.
• Evaluate swimming skills and place participants in appropriate class.
